So how much will we have to strengthen?

I doubt we would get a penny for Croft. Maguire wont fetch what we paid for him and Steve Davies wont be worth 1million in the last year of his contract.

Its a shame to see all but Croft allowed to leave, because the other four are good players. The reason they are letting Bailey go is because he wont break Hendrick and Bryson up but what happens when they get injured or suspended? Surely we will have to bring in another player to do the same role its madness. Addison can play two positions so again with him being so young, why?

My conclusion is that the board are bleeding us dry.

Do you honestly see us getting that much for our players? Come on we'd be lucky to get half of that - Derby can't sell players they have to give them away!!!!

With Davies in his last year - clubs will look to avoid paying so much and wait until transfer deadline to get him on the cheap (See Hulse, Commons.)

Magquire - if he can somehow show Clough he's improved he may get game time, but if he is sold again it'll be for less than what we bought him. Derby can't sell for profit.

Croft, Addison & Bailey - we've not managed to sell Croft as of yet so perhaps look at player exchange with a decent League One player.

I doubt Bournemouth will part with £300k for Addison so again maybe a player exchange, should they have a decent player?

Maguire situation is an irritant. With Davies leaving, I was expecting Clough to say he's now going to be given a chance, but in the same articles it mentions he's available to leave.

Personally I'd like to see him given a chance now and a striker bought in.

Realistic Fees...

Steve Davies - £750k or a swap deal with Leeds for Mccormick who appears to be on the way out.

Ben Davies - £200k or part exchange with pugh at Bournemouth

Miles Addison - Again I can only see him being used in a makeweight deal for Pugh at Bournemouth.

We wont get anything for Croft and Bailey I think will fetch 750k max

Desi

Your probably right in regards to not getting a penny for croft or Addison.

The prices i assigned were merely to start the ball rolling.

Davies' was a rumoured price from AJ's post on the S Davies thread.

I would hower think we could recoup the money we spent on Maguire and Bailley. I dont think they are unrealistic at all.

You can bet your bottom dollar that they will be sold for undisclosed fees so we don't know how much fees have actually been brought in!

The prices aren't unrealistic Pablo, Derby's negotiation skills in the transfer market are pessimistic.

When you break it down, yeah it hardly sets the world alight, does it? But saying that the Davies promotion side couldn't have been put together for much more than 4 million? (I'd gladly be corrected on that by the way) But recent history does prove that it doesn't take a vast sum of money to be spent to put together a sucessful side in this division.

But ideally, based on goal ratio and potential you would expect Davies to go for atleast a million but with his injury record and with him being in the last year of his contract I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if he went for half of that. Which is a massive shame, because last season we were beginning to see the best of him. I really hope i'm wrong.

Regarding potential buyers, if the family reasoning is true then presumably it may not be the case of taking the highest bid but to actually wait for the player's preferred club to come in for him. Which could compromise the fee or even force us into keeping an unhappy player if we don't play ball.

Even if the family reasoning is a smokescreen, I for one wouldn't begrudge him from wanting a change of scenery because lets face it, he's had a very frustrating time here.

We're just going to have to simply see just how well Clough can wheel and deal. In Nige I trust, but already I have concerns over the squad depth for next season.

The squad depth is worrying!

dont be surprised if any deal for Davies involves players swapping. After all, I'm pretty sure that Tranmere are due a cut of any money made on the sale.

Dont forget the money what GSE will invest plus money from player sales should give us a tidy war chest going in to next season

If it's Leeds then Ken Bates v Glick in the negotiations.

Oh dear.

I saw a suggestion of a possible swap deal with Adam Clayton......

.....though what we would want with U2's bass player beats me.

honestly mate, i wouldnt worry about letting addison go, he's broken. never the same man prior to his injuury.

if we could get £1m for steve davies i would snap ther hands off.

now nigel has decided to get rid of bailey, we need a CM, ST and a RM and a cover LB

Kernow, how do Mate

With all due respect, how do we know Addison is not the same player? How many games has he played in a white shirt since his injury, certainly not enough to make those kinds of assumptions. He's been a loanee for god knows how many months, which cant be great for his morale.

If we didnt have such an already threadbare squad I'd suggest all this looks like a fire sale.

posted on 22/5/12

If you want to see a fire sale SDS, take a look down the road. The loans that kept them up have all gone. Any half decent player whose contract is up is leaving, and any half decent player who is still on a contract is up for sale. Oh yeah, and they're stuck with Andy Reid.

ay up SDS,

how do i know? he struggled at barnsley (combination of injury and then pecking order) and wasnt a world beater at bommo who were a mid table league 1 side.
he's a much bulkier and slower player nowadays. by all accounts he had a good time d'aan saaf.
i dont want to be seen as dissing him and genuinely want the lad to do well but i want to see my club aim a little bit higher.
i would like to see someone who is better than we have week in week out or alternatively cover from an older player (30+) who may not cope with 90 mins every week but is great in the dressing room, in training or as cover for injuries.

That aint a Firesale Mate, thats demolision!! Take your point though, we arent quite that badly off yet.

Kernow

Fair enough Mate, strange that he is being allowed to set himself adrift like that though. Even if a player isnt first name down for the first team, he is still an asset and would be worth alot more if fit and playing half decent! Reading through your "I'd like to see" list, is it me or does it read like fairly unambitous wants, or are they based on being owned by a tedious and unambitious consortium?
