Sorry 'best' instead of 'beat' but beat to if you want

Mulgrew is not a bad player but is the POS because of the low standard in the SPL and watch it sink even loer from now on. Webster is a complete charlatan, the guy hid at Ibrox , 3 games in 3 seasons (!!!)and has been found out to be miles off international class. there were very few pass marks last night, McGregor, Brown, Miller , the rest were awful. WE have absolutely no chence of getting to Brazil other than as tourists. Levein talks the talk but is clueless.

Charles earned every one of the plaudits that came his way.

Some folk should pause for breath and realise..

(a) We're not very good
(b) USA are pretty good
(c0) It was a meaningless and experimental friendly after a tough old season.

Hector Mulgrew was poor but that's because firstly he's a better CB than LB and secondly he was given no help or protection by a midfield that defied belief in how bad it was. It was a shambles and the blame for that lies at the feet of Levein.

Ivan I have always defended Levien, but if we don't make a very good start to the qualifiers he will be gone. I can't understand why he has become increasingly negative

No no no no no I'll argue all fakn day with you guys Mulgrew is never a footballer, he is atrocious fair play he scored a no bad goal against us at the giro dome but I could of done that, he ran up about 50 metres un marked, it shows you how sh it e our league is when he gets POTY
Spot on were not going to any tournaments any time soon folks Scotland are utter pi sh we have maybe 4 descent players but we need atleast 9 good players playing consistently together but we don't have that.
Were fakd!!

Ivan

I didn't see the game...

Charlie is inexperienced at international level and as you say, he's an absolute donkey at LB.

Levein, I lost all confidence in after the Czech formation, trying to be smart with the current crop of mediocrity..

Keep it simple, 442/451 and send them out all fired up with nationalistic fire. Levein is not inspirational enough, not tough enough but worst of all, he's too intellectual for our footballers.

Let's be honest, you wouldn't be saying that if he was a tax-dodger and not a member of the Champions 9 goals from defence doesn't sound like a player that 'isn't a football player' either. He had a terrific season.

AK Sadly by the time he gets his jotters (and he will) another qualification campaign will be gone for us.

Brother, the fact of the matter is that Mulgrew deserved that POTY award as there was nobody better than him in the league. It's that simple.

If you're looking to ask questions of specific players then I'd have a look firstly at James McArthur who has never impressed me when I've saw him at any time, be it for Hamilton, Wigan or Scotland. I'd ask why we have no players in midfield who can pass the ball and when we do have them in the team we use them in totally the wrong position (Bannan).

Last night Levein put square pegs in round holes and it showed. That's why we looked so bad. If a manager put the right players in and used the best formation for the players selected then we might have shown a bit more than we did. Although even then we'd probably not have won against a USA team that consistently performs well at World Cups.

This is how I look at it from a neutral point of view. Mulgrew was played out of position. And he was shocking. But Bardsley is a Premier League defender and he was nearly just as bad. Mccarthur was shocking too. The manager was brought in mainly because of the way he could organise a team. This morning, showed that the manager of your national team cannot organise. We all know the SPL is a bad standard, but no need to destroy it because a manager plays players out of position for the International team.

Personally, Joe Ledley would have been my player of the year, but that's another matter.

He had a terrific season.....................yeah he did have a good season but It's in the SPL we're talkin aboot. Let's face It if you can kick a ball up here you're classed as a football player.

posted on 27/5/12

How hard is it to see that our defence is pash, our CB'S are non International class, the only way to combat this is to play a 3-5-2

posted on 27/5/12

The SPL is bad, but the manager of your national team hardly helps the league when he urges all the Scots to play down South.

Surely he should be trying to help the league?

Good point Henrik.

Henrik...on this point Levein is right, the standard of the SPL is atrocious just watch any other major league and you'll see. EPL, La Liga, Budesligue, Portuguese, italian , French etc etc etc, there's a huge gulf between all of them and ours. Levein's priority is the National team not the pompous nonsense that is the SPL. You'll see the gulf in how our teams perform in Europe.

I take your point, Coop.

But you're not going to produce good Scottish players if you urge them to move down to the Championship at the first opportunity? They need games to develop as players, they may be part of a club that is playing at a higher level of football, but what use is that if they don't even get a game?

Getting beat 5-1 by a team that contained Edu. That's just the final straw!

In all seriousness though; we have a solid group of players in my opinion. We are in a much better state than a decade ago in terms of depth and cover and have a good crop of youngsters coming through. We all know that our manager is the issue here; I will never forgive the no striker vs Czech Republic.

Centre back is the weak link absolutely; which is why we need to start praying that guys like Danny Wilson start playing regular football and that guys like Perry of Rangers and Hanley of Blackburn start developing. However, they need experience alongside; and unfortunately Caldwell is the best we have to offer.

Levein will not go unfortunately though and by the time he does it'll be too late as Ivan said.

90% of the Championship is no better than the SPL, look at the scots playing down there who never done to well in the SPL and are there teams star performers

Our players are reasonable, certainly good enough to eventually qualify for a tourney.
But they need to be united in a common cause. Levein tries to be the educating schoolmaster rather than just putting a rocket up them.

Precisely Hector

Henrik....put yourself in the boots of a young player at, say, Dundee Utd, your earning £1000 pw . You're offered 10 times that to move South....what do you do? It's all about dosh. The young players at Celtic won't get a chance til the league is secured( may be early from now on !) so it's down to Rangers who will have no option but to play youngsters next season ! Jeeesus.....we're trail blazers!

posted on 27/5/12

I can't dispute that.

Players can't develop unless they play, but at the same time money talks.

posted on 27/5/12

Hector...reasonable ? We need more than reasonable to qualify....our group has Belgium who are the most improved nation in Europe..we will not qualify.
