"Martinez may play 'a more expansive game' BUT IT DOESN'T WIN VERY MANY FOOTBALL MATCHES."

Because it is with freakin Wigan FFS!!!

LEIVA.

Look at the league tables of the past few years, look at his CV and then tell me he's good enough for LFC.

He's a shiite manager. You know it. I know it.

shortlight, look at most top managers, starts to their careers..

Im sure i mentioned twice in this thread that Martinez wouldnt be my first choice. However a choice between Rodgers and Martinez.

Its Martinez for me. Simple

Both Martinez and Rodger's would be a huge gamble. However, I can see the sense in hiring a young manager who's teams play decent football, but need to be convinced that a DOF can be more effective than a manager having greater responsibility. I suppose it all depends on the individual remit of both jobs.

If the rumours are true, then Rodger's wouldn't have any problems focussing on the coaching element, where other candidates might. However, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this being a key criteria for the role as manager.

Whoever gets the managers job will get my unequivocal support. We just have to cross our fingers that FSG can these decisions right.

He's working with a similar budget to Fulham, West Brom, Swansea, Norwich, and they all finished above Wigan.

Fulhum who paid over 10M for Ruiz? West Brom and Swansea maybe but not Fulhum. Not sure West Brom and Swansea have been at that stage where they have lost there best players and lets not forget that these players go to big clubs for big transfer fee's. This season again he is about to lose Moses and Diame and Figeroua are free agents.

I think we should go for Terry Bullivant.

Has achieved as much as Rogers and has a near identical record at Reading with the seemingly must have trait of never winning anything.

You heard it here first.

Harold.

So, you're saying if the start of a manager's career is mediocre at best, that's perfect criteria for a top job?

Hoody.

It's Iain Dowie for me. Better win rate than Bobby Martin.
All you need is one press hack to start a 'Dowie for LFC' story and half the people on this forum would start seeing it as a good idea.

no but as a manager who is 38 years old his cv is impressive imo.

Dowie would want full control of Traore so that's a no.

Andy Hessenthaler, however, has staved off relegation a couple of times so he looks a good bet.

Good shout. He's nice. He's never won anything. Deserves an interview as a result.

What about Clive Woodward? Nice bloke. Never won anything.

This is nonsense. Wigan had -£9m net since Martinez arrived and this is after receiving good deals from selling their best players, which is shown in their results since. They recieved £16m for Valencia. They sold N'Zogbia and Palacios amongst others. To get them staying up and play that style of football was a great achievement and it's only the short-sighted who can't see that.

TOOR I didnt say the above. I was quoting someone else.

Wigan were, however, only a couple of losses and a draw away from relegation. He would've been considered a failure if he had his players had hit the woodwork instead of the goal in those games.

Werent Wigan just 9 points behind us

3 more wins and he could have been a genius

It was only little more than 2 months ago that Whelan said in the press that he wanted to have a meeting with Martinez about performance and team selection.

I can see the logic in going for a young manager who's teams have exceeded expectations and play good football. It's a risk, given that Rafa's shadow looms large and could be used as a stick to beat the owners if he took another job and the new guy doesn't meet their top 4 expectations
