villa have better players, a better academy, better training facilities, he cant do worse than mcleish so not much pressure and he will have more money to spend at villa. thats a few reasons right there.

Villa are still a big club, they're just going through a bad patch, but they're still a big club.

You could use exactly the same argument re: Rodgers coming to Anfield btw.

The answer is simple btw, money & prestige, same as any of us move jobs.

p.s. I think it'll be a fantastic appointment for Villa, I wanted Lambert to stay at Norwich & eventually be Moyes successor, I think he's a top notch young manager, he'll do a great job for them imho.

He heard Marton O'Neils underwear is still at Villa Park. Case closed.

Would Norwich look at Martinez as a replacement.Maybe Steve Bruce as he did play for them for quite a few years.

The manager merry go round started early this off season

I'm sure he'll do a great job and I still like the guy, but wasn't it only the other day he said rumours of him leaving were rubbish?

Also, with that 'money and prestige' you refer to TB, surely the pressure will be much higher at Villa, where there is no guarantee of success (whereas at Norwich he is already considered successful and it would take a brave man to fire him).

Aston Villa are a bigger club who will offer the manager a lot more means to advance the club than Norwich would and therefore advance his own profile, leading to bigger things. Lambert has always been involved in European competition as a player and no doubt harbours ambition to be involved as a manager.

With a good manager Villa can go places, unfortunately Norwich won't as they just don't have the means to do so.

Money has a lot to do with it. Also a new challenge in the case of Villa to resurrect a biggish club with a large fan base.. There's also sometimes the case of a former player returning to his old club as a manager.

A lot of deciding factors, but these days of greed in football, money talks and will for time immemorial

RE phil neville has three left feet: I'm pretty sure (and not just because of Sly Sports) that Norwich will go for Malky Mackay at Cardiff.

Maybe he has realised that he has done the most he can at Norwich and wants a fresh challenge to challenge himself as a person.

Its called ambition

Villa have the potential to be a bigger club that Norwich. It's the same reason Redknapp went to Spurs even when they were in the shîtter.

But with Lambert - why? In what way are Aston Villa superior to Norwich? I don't care that they've won leagues and a European Cup whereas Norwich haven't, because that was all in the past. That would be like Pardew leaving Newcastle for Liverpool - just because they were once better doesn't mean they are now.

----

Yes it does.

Villa have a larger revenue stream and greater potential for expanding that stream because i. they have a bigger name than Norwich and ii. they are based in a much bigger city.

That revenue stream means - potentially - bigger names, bigger salaries and, ideally, more honours.

Going to a club when it's at its lowest ebb will mean that Lambert will be under less pressure from the fans. They've ha big Eck there and anyone is an improvement on him.

He'll probably be given time to turn things around

Who says Villa are better than Norwich? Having better players is no guarantee of that, and they barely even have them since they sold Downing, Young and Milner.

Villa also have a much bigger debt too

If you're a player and you're given the chance to join Villa or Norwich, chances are you're joining Villa.

True.

But I'd guess most rich people have much more debt than you or I.

But i. they are still a lot richer than we are and ii. they are much more likely to "go places".

ps. Apologies in advance if you are a billionaire.

pps. And if you are, lend us a tenner!

If I were Lambert, I would look at the reason why MoN left Villa and steer well clear.

I honestly think Norwich are happy to just stay in the premier league.

Lambert probably wants more than just making up the numbers...same for Holt as well.

Its simple really. Money, infastructure, history and standing. Whatever you think, the fact remains Villa are an est Premiership team with better players than Norwich, they have more money and a bigger capacity. They can also attract better players than Norwich, all this and obviously he will be getting paid more because its Villa not Norwich...get it

Billionaires tend to be billionaires for a reason. No sentimentality, ruthlessness, don't chase bad money with good and no matter what people say do what's best for you.

I think Lerner seen a window of opportunity with Villa a few years back and got close to landing Champions league footy. That window is well and truly shut and he's looking to get back his investment by selling his best players.
