Di Natale isn't world class. Cassano is a very good player. Much better than Di Natale. De Rossi is a very good player as is Marchisio and Maggio.

"World class" is a very clichéd description of footballers these days.

But based on my own interpretation of world class then I don't think Italy really have any world class players.

I forgot about Cole. He'd be there too.

I don't know how to describe my criteria, but it'd probably be along the lines of being in serious consideration to play in almost any team in World Football (Club or country). Rooney is one of the best strikers in the World and Cole is one of the best left-backs in the world, and I believe that both would be seriously considered to play with any team in the World. Di Natale is one of my favourite players in the world, but I don't think he's in the same class.

luckily football is about making a team not individuals, when the **** hits the fans the italians stick together.

The Italian team always has a special togetherness, despite having a lot of quality players in the team and perhaps a lot of egos they seem to always have an excellent team spirit and can never be underestimated. The fact that Prandelli has changed the system so many times, shows the confidence he has in his players.

The tide turned when Drogba put us one up. If Torres ,Drogba , Lampard and others took their chances the score would have nearer to a rugby one. Full marks to Napoli who came to make a game of it, thinking, Chelsea in disarray, media claiming no chance for the blues, Naps came with daggers drawn to finish off the wounded lion. But you know what they say about wounded lions.... haha. Inler's speculative stunner gave hope to the visitors, but on the night Chelsea were just too majestic for the Italians. For me one of the best nights of the year.

Cole is not world class anymore.

I wouldn't call Balotelli world class.

My interpretation would be if there was a "world team" then to be considered "world class" a player would need to be good enough to be in the 11 or the squad and in my opinion, Balotelli isn't good enough.

God another pointless wrangle about what world class means.

Balotelli is a world class finisher. He lacks consistency, so indeed he probably wouldn't get in a World 11. But he can win games - e.g. it was him who unravelled United in the 6-1 thrashing.

Italy are solid but lack a consistent goal threat. England are exactly the same.

It's just as much a matter of having as many "excellent" players as possible as it is of having 2 or 3 "world class" players, it's a matter. Italy consistently produces excellent players all over the pitch and when they're well managed are almost invariably more than the sum of their individual parts.

I don't know the Italian team in depth, but imo Cassano, probably past his best, is still an excellent player. De Rossi. Marchisio. Chiellini. Barzagli. Maggio. Giovinco. Others I'm either forgetting or unaware of. They'd made it into most country's 23 man squads for an international tournament, no problem.

Here i am thinking how italy has a better midfield, strikers and keepers. How people can delude themselves about all things england continues to shock me. Rooney world class? Have you seen di-natalie record or watched the constant class he oozes when he play?

There is no way anyone who watches the game on sunday comes out saying any player on the england side is a better player.

Di Natale and Cassano are fantastic players and much better than Balotelli at the moment. Their movement and intelligence is amazing, and they can work as pivots in a 4-5-1 as well as in a 4-4-2 playing off each other. Cassano's passing is better while Di Natale's finishing is better. Health issues and age however mean they can rarely finish games. Frankly if Cassano didn't have his attitude issues (which marred his unfortunate Spanish stint) and Di Natale was more physically gifted (much quicker), they would be among the most desired players in the world for any team

20 comments and not one person has mentioned the magnificent Pirlo.

the magnificent Pirlo, is, in a word, magnificent.

Balotelli, Di Natale are not world class - this is proof that the term is over used. Pirlo has been one of the best players in the competition. The way the guy controls the game is just outstanding.

Pirlo, Buffon and De Rossi.

Overall they are playing better football than England at the moment.

If you think Di Natale oozes class every minute he is on the pitch you are stupid and you've probably only seen him play 3 minutes. Balotelli is a much better player as is Cassano. Di Natale is a fat lazy oaf.
