no one cares then?

Do you honestly think Young deserves the number 7 shirt?

we have similar issues with that number so i am sort of qualified to answer this.

i thought you lot was the same as us in only wanting players that deserve to wear that number, and no offence but i wouldn't be impressed if Young was given that number personally if i supported utd.,

Manchester United's new Japanese midfield signing Shinji Kagawa has talked of his excitement at joining the Red Devils, confirming that he turned down the chance to wear the club's famous number seven shirt.

Kagawa, 23, flew into Manchester on Friday to complete a medical and sign terms on four-year deal at the club, but wants to make his name at Old Trafford before possibly stepping into the iconic shirt worn by the likes of George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I've just joined the team and haven't accomplished anything yet," Kagawa told journalists in Japan after his 12-hour return flight. "I want to make a name for myself [at United] on my own terms."

Kagawa added that he had asked for a number "with personal meaning", leading to speculation in the Japanese media that the player could wear the 8, 26, or 29 as he did at Cerezo Osaka, or the 23 shirt he donned at Dortmund.

"The contract was as long as I'd expected from a club [like United]," Kagawa added. "When I was at [Old Trafford], I thought about how incredible it would be if I could score there."

Kagawa follows countrymen Junichi Inamoto, Kazuyuki Toda, Hidetoshi Nakata and Ryo Miyaichi into the Premier League, following two seasons in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, where he scored 21 times in 49 league matches.

Young doesn't serve the no.7 shirt just yet, maybe he'll make his mark then be given it by SAF.

Kagawa doesn't really want to disappoint the fans if he takes the 7 shirt and fails to prove his worth. I'd give him the first season and see how he gets on, then give him the no.7.

For those of you saying Nani should get it - Nani has already said that he doesn't want it because of the history his current number has. I think he was born on the 17th which makes him feel the need to keep that number. It's already got a 7 in it, he doesn't need it I guess.

GIVE IT TO BLOODY GORDON

Ashley Young given number 7 shirt? Are you actually having a laugh?

He's a mediocre player at best, nothing more. If any of our current players deserve it then it should be Nani. He is far more talented than Young.

And it really bugs me when people label Valencia 1 dimensional because he can't use his left foot. When do you ever see Young going down the left and using his left to cross the ball? He never does. He just cuts back in and uses his right.

Nani should get number 7 and a bumper contract I reckon. And over the last 2-3 years, I would say he's earned it. He was unlucky with a few niggling injuries last season but when he did play he was always a threat.

Valencia said no as well, so why not cleverly or give it to a local in Danny!?

not all the time if you watch united play

even becks used his left foot a lot !
valencia needs to work on that, hes a pro footballer, surely has enough time to practice.

even i am double footed and im just a normal 11 a side / 5 a side dude!

Valencia playing down the right doesn't really need to be good with his left. He is playing on the right, where he should be.

Young plays on the left though with no left foot whatsoever. Far more of a hindrance. He has to cut back and provide in swinging crosses with his right that will always favour the defence.

Centre backs don't like facing their own goal when defending. They want to be facing their opponents goal to clear the ball.

So sick of hearing of Valencia's inability to use with left when Young who actually plays on the left isn't any better at it either. This is where Nani has the advantage of being comfortable on both feet.

young and nani should start on the wings next season

i know none of you care for my opinion being a Liverpool supporter, but if there was player that deserved the shirt no it would be Nani,(cant believe if true he may leave) although i hate his play acting half the time, but too many players like that now days sadly, we all have them in our teams

i would say Giggs, but no 11 was his number for some reason, who better to have worn the number than him?

the number 7 shirt means a lot to both teams and there isn't too many players that deserve the number, and no offence but Young isn't one of them

and yes Keane didn't deserve it either before you point that out to me

side point,

any of you know as a sign of respect to a legend that is Giggs, if after he retires you lot will retire the number 11 shirt?

what better way to show a legend of your club what he meant to you lot, just a shame he played for the wrong club

anyway lets hope England do us proud tonight, and that means all the players

So you would drop the players player of the year and the player who got the most assists in our team to boot in Valencia for Young?

Delusional springs to mind.

Valencia worries teams when he runs at them down the right wing. Nani worries teams down either flank. Young doesn't worry anybody.

nani on the right on his day is world class and better than valencia and valencia cant play on the left so young will start, nani is wasted on the left and is better than valencia

and rooney was our best player last season

Valencia won't be dropped for Young. Not a chance. He was great last season and made more goals and chances than any other United player.

Nani might be better on the right I agree but he's also better than Young on the left. So it depends how you want to look at it.

If you ask the City, Chelsea and Arsenal fans who they would prefer to see in our line up when we play them, they'd all choose Young I bet.

I don't get the Young hype. I thought he was pretty poor for large amounts of last season, occasionally having a blinder. And he's been dross so far in the Euros. One of England's poorest players for me.

valencia was voted fans and players player of the season - not Rooney.

Nani>Valencia>Young

I give the edge to Nani just because of the versatility with both feet, his pace and ability to beat men with ease.

Valencia is more consistent but I agree can be too predictable at times. Although 99% of the time that predictability doesn't stop him because of his sheer pace and power.

Young didn't impress me that much last season. He scored a few nice goals but overall I was expecting more from him. He doesn't go past defenders like Nani and Valencia do. He crosses from deep which often end up being cleared.

And so far with England, he's stunk the place out. So so lucky that there isn't anything better to come in and replace him.

i know that

i mean like he was our best player, just because someone plays well for there own standard doesn't mean they were the best player

But We all know Rooney is our best player. His place in the team isn't under threat.

Valencia was far superior to Young last season. Hence why he was rewarded with the player's recognition. And we simply have to play Nani. He's far too good for the bench.

Young will still play loads anyway, but the other two are best options for me.
