Chronic
Half the trouble is players get picked on hype. Rooney has not played well for England for years, but still gets picked. They are starting to hype up Ox now, he will go the same way, the same with Wilshire.
England do not need all these so called wonderboys, they need good hard working professionals that can actually do the business.
Doesn't matter.
Long may it continue.

i dont disagree.
i am indifferent to how England do, i am a club not country man . however i just dont really understand what is so deeply wrong with the system.
England are not a footballing powerhouse, that's your first mistake.
I cant believe some of the stuff I hear from England fans. Shearer said we are 5th/6th best team in the world. We aren't the 5/6th best team in Europe, despite what the flawed rankings says.
People have been claiming Gerrard had a fantastic tournament despite getting outplayed in the centre in every match we played. Carroll was terrible despite his goal. Rooney was terrible, but some fans are saying its because he didn't get service. Service doesn't improve your touch and passing. Welbeck played ok, not brilliant like some people are saying.
England were average the whole tournament, Terry, Lescott, Cole, Johnson and Hart are the only players that you could describe as playing well. The midfield and the attack were poor. Until we stop overrating our players we will get nowhere, because if we take them for what they are, they might strive to improve.
England fans / coaches / media praise hardwork, spirit, tracking back & tackling over technical ability.
I think you'll find that good and hardworking isn't quite enough these days Sandy I'm afraid. How many of the teams at this tournament would Parker walk into? Isn't it also a bit embarrassing that Carroll was probably the most expensive player on the pitch tonight?
Wilshere may be hyped up Sandy but you'd have to be the most deluded tottenham fan ever if you think he's not a good technical midfielder. In fact, Jack has every quality chronic mentioned in his article. One touch movement, deft touches, keeps the ball, low centre of gravity etc etc.
Carroll was probably the most expensive player on the pitch tonight?
-----
He actually was! How can the most talentless player on the pitch be the most expensive?
Wilshere is a great young talent. He's overhyped, but very good, and technically good as well, especially for an English player.
Hopefully we don't make the same mistake with him that we did with Scholes: not building the side around him.

Perfect summary
much as i detest rooney you'd have to be a blind, blinkered old fool to deny that he is comfortably our most talented player
who are the idiots like sandy suggesting we try instead? Defoe?!? Peter "better than van persie" Crouch
They are starting to hype up Ox now, he will go the same way, the same with Wilshire.
--------------------------------------
What exactly is that supposed to mean? Where has Wilshere gone? I agree the OX is overhyped but Wilshere was pure class before his injury troubles.
"its ridiculous how a football powerhouse can get techically outclassed by virtually every opposition faced, weak or strong."
powerhouse since when? technically we get outclassed by the majority of the teams we face because they are technically superior.......truly not that complicated to come to that conclusion. we value pace power passion and lack skill, poise, vision, and ability. aside from those small short comings we are sure to win the World Cup in two years.
People who are suggesting rooney should be dropped are mad. Who else should play? Defoe? Carroll? Crouch?
Not to mention I don't understand how anyone could want England to drop Rooney: the best player of the country. For who exactly? Defoe?

----------------------------------
You pre-empted me to it. Maybe Argentina and Portugal should have dropped Messi and Ronaldo when they were struggling for their teams.
well if sandy can make an argument for crouch being superior to van persie i'm anticipating a Defoe > Rooney piece any time now
well passing doesn't come natural for english players. At the clubs you have foreign players who can control the ball.
Parker has Modric, Milner ahas Toure. When you stick them together, try a one two with carroll and milner it isnt going to happen.
As long as I dont ahve to hear rubbish like 'play at a premier league place'.
The premier league 'product' masks the deficencies in english football.
Rooney may be the best English player playing in the premier league, but the most talented player in the England team is Jack Wilshere.
Technically he is unrivalled. No player in our team has the ball control that he possesses.
Agreed. There is seriously no english rival to Jack Wilshere in terms of technique. Like I said, he is a mutant
I hope this shuts all the idiots who thought Gerrard > Lampard
Gerrard is a awful, awful player. He's the reason why England couldn't keep possession this tournament.
Lampard is a intelligent footballer who uses the ball well.

Technically he is unrivalled. No player in our team has the ball control that he possesses.
-------------------------------------
I remember Rooney as a free-spirited teenager playing with so much flair at all levels. His game has changed somewhat and he goes through these boom-bust cycles. Strange.
As for Wilshere, I fear for the kid. We may have another Ramsey on our hands considering he missed an entire season of football.
Wilshere is much more talented than Ramsey, always remember that Sherrif
Ramsey also only started 4/5 games before his injury, Wilshere started 54 games, impressed, got in the team of the year, won young player of the year and made his international debut.

Nice to fans of other teams also seeing Jack's quality.
Saint, Toor has been giving Gerrard a 9 out of 10 for the competition.
Rooney used to be technically brilliant when he first came to United. I don't know what has happened as his ability to retain possession, his touch, dribbling, passing and long distance shooting have all regressed.
I was shot down by VC for saying that Rooney would have been technically more acomplished had he gone to Arsenal. The nature of Wenger's coaching would have improved him technically, whereas United's game is more about power, pace and being a more rounded player, and often their ability is coached out of them.
Nani, Rooney, Ronaldo and Anderson have had their tehnique regressed since they came.
