What we can now expect from England

Would be interesting to hear from any Chelsea fans on what the score is with Josh McEachran. I keep hearing that he could be the next big thing, is he any good?

If we stick with Roy's defensive tactics and Gerrard in midfield I won't bother with the world cup, we know it will fail!

I suggested a team of kids because none of our experienced players ever lived up to their hype, Rooney being the most obvious example.

Look at Brazil's squad - Hulk is their oldest outfield player at 24. We need to get the young players used to playing for England. Chamberlain looked our only really dangerous player at the Euros and hardly got a look in.

Time for wholesale change, problem is Hodgson will never do it.

Ideally, he should aim to keep a consistent team - like the germans have done.

If they stick at it and fine tune then the team can only get better.

Think that the future looks a lot brighter than the past,a reasonable manager and a good few young players to form the nucleus of a good team.

Hart,Smalling,Sturridge,Gibbs.Wilshere.Oxlade,Chamberlaine.Even Rooney is not that old.

I`m with you on that. This Gerrard love in is laughable, he was ordinary at the Euros and the press are bigging him up as if he is up there with Xavi and Iniesta.

Gerrard at the next world cup will be same old same, but even worse.

Sandy

I got behind Roy's England, and was actually quite positive after we topped the group - it all seemed to make sense.

What worries me when I look to 2014 is the views of Liverpool fans who warned us about Royball - this is the only way he knows how to play. Maybe we could have got the best out of Gerrard if we'd played and extra man behind him, but 4-4-2 is all he knows

Royball actually worked,if we had players who could take a spot kick we would be in the next round.

If Italy could have finished some of their many chances it would have been embarrassing... De Rossi

They couldn't finish,we couldn't start, hence the draw.

So Royball worked by default, not by design.

Royball clearly didn't work as we went out at the quarters like we usually do.

First things first we need to sift out the deadwood. Players that should either be retired or play a bit part in England are Gerrard, Lampard, Ferdinand, Terry, Barry, Cole, Parker, Crouch. Rooney needs to be made droppable based on shat performances. Players who are in form and show a smidgen of ability on the ball need to be promoted to the first team.

This would be my team:

----------------------------------Hart

Walker/Richards/Johnson---Cahill-----Lescott------Baines

-------------------Rodwell----Huddlestone/Cleverley------------
Johnson-----------------------------------------------------------Ox
--------------------------------Wilshere-----------------------------------
--------------------------Welbeck/Rooney---------------------------

It makes me laugh how the fans of Spurs, Chelsea, Man Utd have a go at Gerrard.
If he was their club player they would be backing him to the hilt.

Like it Spurtle, I'd go a bit further:

----------------------------------Hart

Walker---Richards-----Caulker------Bertrand/Gibbs

-------------------Rodwell----Cleverley------------
Johnson-----------------------------------------------------------Ox
--------------------------------Wilshere-----------------------------------
--------------------------Welbeck/Carroll---

Parker is simply not good enough for international level. Throwing your body in the way and getting a couple of blocks in is not what we should be looking for

With Parker every second touch is a tackle!

As for the future the FA have invested in Roy for 4 years having just opened St George's Park. Does this mean every age group playing a sterile containing 442 formation. The comments from Roy about possession should be a massive alarm bell.

The FA should have a plan for the future not having a figurehead who hasn't moved on from 442 for 30 years.

Ray Lewington.....England coach, oh dear.

Been outnumbered in midfield and been completely tactically inept & not changing something clearly not working was criminal on behalf of the manager

This bizarre notion seemingly accepted that Roy hasn't had enough time to out across his 'ideas' was a pathetic excuse. Most of this team have been playing together for years.....years! And they couldn't pass the ball to each other. They played better football under McClaren!

A complete joke....absolute shambles with ridiculous excuses as to why top level players played like strangers. The 30 year out of date tactics killed us. a player like Gerrard been given no platform to perform as an attacker due to having to cover Parker's ineptitude and lack of positional sense.

The players don't play this system at their clubs....making the most sensible use of the time given would not have been changing the system but honing a team in a system the players were familiar with.

In fact we've gone backwards. Again!

Calm down fella!

As you clearly know Parker's performance is not the problem, it's the symptom. He's good enough for a top 4 premier league side, and during last season both United and Arsenal fans admitted they'd have liked to have signed him.

The difference is that Spurs, Arsenal and United all like to play attacking football while retaining possession. Parker's job is quite clear - to break up the opposition play and give the ball to the playmaker. Makelele made a career out of doing exactly that.

Aside from that I agree with you - Hodgson is in the process of taking English football back 20 years.

Hodgson cut his cloth from the material available.

If you look closely, you may spot that all the key players at the top-4 clubs who are key to them playing "attacking football while retaining possession" are not eligible for England.

Back to the OP... why no Lescott in your team? He's younger than Terry, doesn't have Terry's off-field baggage, and must be the only member of the England squad to enhance his international reputation during the tourney.

Hart
Walker Smalling/Cahill Terry Cole
Ox Gerrard Wilshire Young
Rooney Welbeck

-----

That would be something....

Sadly Roy's 1st choice for the Euros was as follows....

Hart
Johnson, Carrick, Terry, Cole
Barry, Lampard, Gerrard, Milner
Rooney and Welbeck

He will revert to this XI when they are fit.

A BIG downhill ride for England.

OOp. That was Cahill not Carrick.
