Ronaldo, bottler? How so?

Your best penalty takers should be as high up the list as their willing to be. If he didn't have the bottle to take one earlier far enough but you would probably expect better from the 2nd best player in the world. If on the other hand he wanted to take the decisive penalty how can that be defended?

Is Ronaldo one of their best Penalty takers? He has missed some of the biggest in his Career:

1) Away to Barca in CL Semi for United
2) Champions leafue final vs Chelsea
3)Semi final of CL against Munich

Messi is the best player in the world. It's as simple as that mate.

Yes but these are in less pressure games.

So you don't think he would take a penalty if they got it in normal time? Which would probably make him their best penalty taker unless I'm missing something?

Come on, if you score 26 pens in a row, you are a very good penalty taker

Frigin Rooney missed 4 out of 10 he took for us last season and he's still our first chocie pen taker

Bit of a conundrum.

Would you want a not so reliable penalty taker to be taking the 5th one.

We were glad Mr Terry stepped up to take the 5th and not Frank or Ballack.

Who's to say Bruno Alves isnt Portugal's top pen taker anyway? he may bang them in with 100% conversion rate in training, who knows

NOt like his penalty was poor. It was heading top top corner. A couple fo inches lower and it wouldve been the best pen of them all. Fine line

Yes of course he is but the record of missing the big one's is something Ronaldo has to improve.

Not exactly something you can train on is it

He misses because of the pressure obviously. Not like he can replicate the scenario in training

He did convert the one that knocked England out of Euro 04 and are you telling me that within those 26 pens, not one was a high rpessure kick?

You cant score them all

How am I supposed to know, what a stupid question but being their best penalty taker the probability is higher. So I take it you agree that hes the best than as you didn't answer the question and asked something irrelevant.

Bit of a conundrum.

I think it was more to do with the slip than the pressure with Terry but your point still stands, I just think by being 5th there's a chance you won't take a penalty and you want your best penalty takers taking a pen in a shootout just my opinion though.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. You should have your top penalty takers in the top 3 as 4 and more likely 5 may not get a chance. Sometimes the 10th penalty can be decisive, would you leave youe best taker until then?

Exactly its either something you can handle or you can't. He would have to work out a way to let the pressure get to him, only he can do that.

Not as high as Champions league finals and Semi Final's no.

Not even like he completely fluffed his lines though is it

Had the keeper guessed the wrong way, his pens wouldve looked great. Tbh, I tihnk thats the least of his problems right now

I mean, you have a penalty shootout once every what, 4 years at most. End of the day, it's at the very worse 50-50 if you hit the target so I doubt he's going to lose sleep over it

He didnt last night - aslways think the guy you are relying on should hit number 3. Guaranteed to hit one.

He has been involved in 3 Huge Penalty shoot outs in 4 years. I would say he is losing alot of sleep over it. Even more so this time as it will be on his mind that he never had the chance to hit. Was gutted Spain won last night!

Winning the Euros probably wouldve bagged him the Ballon D'Or, now, he'll probably have to watch on as messi collects thw award again.

Ah well, he's still going to idolised like no other in Portugal

posted on 28/6/12

don't think messi should win it as he won nothing of note this year. Pirlo might be a dark horse for it. Unbeaten Season for Juve, One of the best players at the Euro's - if the won it it would have to be him.

Yup. There's no way this stuff stays with them for long. It all seemed like a bigger deal back in the day, like it was your one and only chance to win the big one. A player like Ronaldo get's a million kicks at the can with all the competitions these days. Probably already forgotton about it.
