Maybe if he didnt swan off to Las Vegas a month before the Euros then England might have stood a chance.

Blame the players around him all you want. They werent the cause for him looking unfit, sloppy and out of match practice

The Euros only last for 6 games. You dont have time to settle in and slowly work your way into the team. You need to be ready from the off.

His stupidity in getting sent off and incurring a 2 match ban and then jetting off for a holiday a short while before the tournament means he should get no sympathy at all.

MrC

Although I do agree with you regarding the Vegas trip, he couldn't train due to a niggling injury which is why he was given time off

Vegas or no Vegas would have made no difference although I do agree it didn't look great from a PR point of view

I will say though that anyone who doesn't realise the tactic of 2 deep lying MF coupled with 2 wingers providing zero support was always going to nullify Rooney allowing the opposition to mark him out of the game with ease doesn;t really understand football

England are making the same mistake with Rooney that they did with Scholes

If I was Rooney I would retire from International football. He's constantly the scapegoat for the media and fans alike. Trouble is, the same fans who constantly slate Rooney playing for England would then slate him for not playing for them. It's what us English/Brits do, we try to find reasons to slate our best sportsman. Tennis is a perfect example. Tim Henman was the best male tennis player we had had since maybe Fred Perry yet I saw far more negative headlines about him than positive ones. Bottler being the most consistant

As a country, we should be looking at why our most talented player keeps fekking up at tourneys and collectively doing our best to support him in getting it right, We would rather berate the guy though wouldn't we. Some do it because he a pretty poor character, some do it because he play for Unted (I said some), some do it because he our biggest footballing talent

It's utterly pathetic. Sorry

In the top 5 in his position? ... No.

Me and you wil probably never see eye to eye on the Rooney issue.

I know what you mean with the media. They wil look to knock him down at ever opportunity because of his profile and talent but this is why he should he should not be doing silly things like getting sent off or going on holiday before a tournament.

If he did have an injury. he could have stil done other fitness work. Being injured doesnt mean you're allowed to let yourself go and then work double sessions when the time comes. Which brings to my next point.. Him asking for extra training sessions to help him gain match fitness. Admirable but you cant pick and choose when you want get fit in professional sport. You have to stay right on the ball throughout your career.

He reminds me of Ricky Hatton in some aspects. He'd work extra hard to get himself fit before fights. In between fights he'd balloon up. It caught up with him in the end.

Those extra sessions he did do, Im afraid were too little too late.

We all say we want a team built around Wayne Rooney.. Is Wayne Rooney the right person for England to build a team around?

Messi, Ronaldo, Cavani, RVP, Aguero and Falcao are half a dozen off the top of my head that would walk into my team ahead of Rooney at the moment.

Agreed

Messi and ronaldo yes, but the rest don't offer anywhere near as much as rooney

I didn't realise that Milner was to blame for Wazza having a poor tournament.

Yeah we should rebuild the whole side around a guy who's not even played a full season of games for United yet on the back of half dozen excellent performances at the start of last season.

As for Wilshere, he looked a top class player, just the type of guy England needs, BUT he's been seriously injured for well over a year and his situation is starting to get a little worrying despite yet more predictions he might be back in the near future. He'll do fantastically well to return to the levels he was at for Arsenal any time soon after the amount of football he's missed, especially with an ankle issue, let alone start looking to restructure the England side around the kid.

............................

I said the same thing yesterday.

It really wasn't Milners fault Roy kept picking him. Anyone who watches football knows Milner has no football ability what so ever, especially for a winger.

No pace, can't dribble and can't cross.

Quite how he is playing in the premiership beggars belief.

I would actually go out on a limb here and say our former muidfielder Gibbo had more ability, and anyone who knows me, knows what I felt about Gibbo.

Sign Milner, play him at CB then blame him for everything if United don't win the quadruple.

Ozil, Iniesta, Fabregas.

Let me know when any of those players have a 35+ goal season as a number 10.
