He is very talented in terms of technique and was rated the better of the twins. However, he has had a lot of injuries - even more than Rafael! I also don't think that he adapted to the physical side of the English game as his brother.

I actually get the feeling that Fabio would be better off playing on the wing. He is quite creative and has a decent enough delivery and threat from set-pieces. His defensive game isn't quite there yet. But in terms of ability, he is very promising. If he gets game then I think it will be a good move for both parties. Do you think that he will be first choice LB?

Fabio is great. He was one of our best players against Barcelona its just a shame he is made of glass.

We would have won the league if Baines was at left back last season.

Baines is a classic Fergie signing. He's been very solid in the prem for a few years now, and Fergie often signs players with that sort of experience and then turns them into winners.

Fabio is a fantastic prospect, but at the age of 22 and being made of glass, we cannot risk putting all our hopes on him. Especially as Evra will be 32 next year, and next season we definitely need some back up for him.

Fabio can be be backup for a few seasons to Baines unless he can prove that he is worthy of starting, and of course can stay fit for a full season.

Arab,

on paper he would walk his way into our team, its just this fitness/injury thing that bothers me.

defensive wise, well, hes gonna feel it at our place, we are going to need a no nonsense, stand up guy to do the job i think.

I think I am correct in saying that he didn't pick up another injury from December onwards last season. He was on the bench a lot for us, without getting many minutes on the pitch. As I recall he was playing quite a bit in the reserves to keep him fit. Hopefully that is an indication that he is over the worst of the injury problems.

Arab,

i like what you are sayin, whats he worth? i mean, should we fall in love with him at Loftus Road?

I remember when they arrived, Fabio was supposed to the better of the two. With Evra being on good form for a few seasons really hindered his opportunities with the first team. That, in the long run it could cost United - 15 mil.

Question is; was SAF wrong in not judging his progression, in comparison to Paddy's (some what) bad form and therefor weaning him into the team a little faster, saving the club a few bob in the process?

I am quite surprised that he's being loaned out as he is certainly good enough to be a part of our squad. If you can keep him fit, he could be one of the signings of the season.

Oh and I also am folically challenged!

I doubt that SAF will sell him to be honest. Like I said, he was rated quite a lot higher than his brother when we signed him. He was actually the captain of the Brazil U17 team that won the South American Championship and scored 5 or 6 goals and I believe played in a more advanced role. He was one of the stand out players of the tournament and tipped for big things. When the two boys joined United the common opinion was that Rafael had only been brought over to keep Fabio happy and everyone was surprised that Rafael overtook his brother. Although that was partly thanks to Garry Neville's legs suddenly deciding that they'd had enough and Rafael getting games.

Even if he never catches Rafael back up, he will still be a good squad player and SAF likes to have them. Especially when they have a brother in the team who they will help keep settled. If he stays fit and gets the games then I think that he could have a real positive impact for QPR. I just hope you add a bit more quality to the squad before the start of the season.

The Red Side said earlier that:

Apparently one of the coaching staff at United has said that the twins are emotionally immature compared to other players and it's impacting their development and their playing time and they're also not learning from their mistakes.

Maybe he's going on loan to help them mature a bit as being away from one's twin might make you do?

That seems like an entirely reasonable suggestion. Twins do tend to be extremely close and I imagine even more so when in a foreign country. The separation will probably help them mature.

Lets just hope that they managed to split them up in time before they get too close - no-one wants to see them 'do a Jedward'. Ewwww.

Must be hard for them to leave each other. They have lived together all their lives. I really hope QPR get the best out of him.

posted on 2/7/12

Hopefully. They both have amazing potential.

God forbid. I cannot stand Jedward.

Given Baines is already going to be 28 this year it hardly means the end of Fabio.

If anything the relatively short time Baines will be at his peak if at all is one reason, aside from the fact we wont be closing any gaps with the really elite clubs, I hope we dont spend 15m plus on him. Especially as the time he's most likely to be at his peak will be the time Evra is still at the club even if in decline.
