Are Spurs a big club?

Depends how you define 'Big Club'. In terms of the average waist-size of your everyday $pud, they are definitely a big club with big supporters.

They are trying to become a big club and may even have a few years of good success. But they do not have the infrastucture, the fanbase or the history to remain at the top.

Big is a subjective term.

Spurs are a fairly big club in the UK, but if you broaden that to Europe and beyond they are considerably smaller than United, Liverpool or even Chelsea and Arsenal.

They are slghtly bigger than West Ham who are also a fairly big club but nowhere near the size of the top 4 + Liverpool

No, they're a small club, pretty much unknown outside of the UK, but they do try, ill give them that.

If you look at it purely from a financial point of view between May 2010 and May 2011:

Spurs net assets increased from £70m to £80.5m
Arsenal net assets increased from £255m to £268m

Net assets is basically a figure showing how much a company is worth...

Arsenal

Contrary to the myth out there, Chelsea were still amongst the top 10 in the money league way before Abramovich came in, in fact the year we made CL for the first time we were 3rd. Spurs even with a couple of seasons of relative success by their standards still aren't even top 10.

They are definitely getting bigger but not as quickly as City are.

Even though Chelsea and Liverpool both finished below Spurs, noone regards them as a bigger club than either which speaks volumes.

Liverpool even without CL football and the fruits that come with it still rake in much more cash. United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are the only 4 clubs with strong fanbases in each corner of the world. City will soon join that club if they continue to win things. QPR, Spurs and West Ham are trying but they never will without CL Football.

Arsenal have had CL Football for 15 years running, Chelsea nearly 10, that in itself enhances your rep. One hit wonders like Spurs and Everton will never realistically get a look in unless they sustain success

No they are not, but they are ambitious.

Spurs - medium sized club with ambition
Arsenal - big club with no ambition

I know I'm biting but to say that Spurs have a lack of history is rather foolish. We can be accused of many things but that isn't one of them.

Only non-league club to have won the FA cup.

First team to do the double in the professional era.

First British team to win a European trophy.

However the way I look at it is we have won 2 League cups in 21 years yet we have over 30k on the waiting list for season tickets (hence needing to expand).
Surely size is easier to measure when success is limited and that makes us pretty big. Had Chelsea had our lack of success over the past 20 years the Bridge would be empty instead of being full of tourists and school mums. I don't remember Highbury stacking them in when you were garbage in the early 80's.

Your successful period was minute in comparison to big clubs' successful periods. Look at Arsenal in the 30's, Liverpool in the 80's and United for the last 20 years.

In London, West Ham are as big as Tottenham. Outside of London they aren't.

But your two clubs do have similar fanbases based upon the fans I've met.

Everton and Villa have won more trophys than us but we still have a very decent history and certainly better support.

I go to Villa 3/4 times a season as I have alot of Villa mates and there are many empty seats. Everton are not filling Goodison very often these days either.

flirtng with top 4 is as high as Spurs can get, and as low as we can get.

BoasRaptor. This is a tactic that Arsenal and Chelsea fans use on ja606 to wind us up. My brother in Law is proper West Ham with the scars to prove it and through him I know many Hammers fans. I've never met one who would think they were anywhere near the size of us. Don't they have to advertise their tickets?

There are only three big clubs in England. Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal. Man Utd and Liverpool are bigger than Arsenal. They have won more trophies and have larger fans in UK and around the world.

Spot on Boasraptor.

The point I was trying to make earlier was that we are a massive club considering our lack of trophies in recent years but I guess the Gooners just haven't got the minerals to admit that!!

Imagine what our support would be like if we ever got successful (I won't hold my breath).
