Toronto lets put this one to bed...Firstly the fact that you may well have appointed both a decent football man and the right choice at this stage of your development does not distract from the fact that your new sugar daddy's promised you an "iconic" name and for whatever reason nobody of a previous higher standing in the game was interested.
When it comes to signings are your new players going to be equally as iconic as your manager? Will the Kuwatis really give SOD say £5million to spend on one player?
Alternatively you can accept that you are now in a much better place than you were before but inevitably behind teams that have already started on this road ie LCFC.
Bear in mind the Thais have spent millions on training ground and the pitch etc that they will never recover,as well as sponsoring Svens spending spree and supporting NP in the present time.
Only time will tell if the Kuwatis will do the same for you.
As much as my football upbringing forces me to despise Notts Forest I am pleased in a way that you will still be around for future battles.
However you need to get real and stop living in the past FFS you have a lot of catching up to do and what you did 30years ago won't help you a bit.......whether Sheik al bull..it will remains to be seen.

Coventry, really? You're deluding yourself. Now you may not be our true rivals but I'm sure both Derby and Forest fans equally dislike you. More for your off-field antics than rivalry but what the hey.

Maybe spending £5M on one player isn't a good idea. Didn't do you much good with Matt Mills did it?

Would you really want an iconic manager? The problem with iconic managers is that they'll generally only want to come to then English second tier because they can't get a job elsewhere - then they're just managers who used to be good. Better to have your ironic one. (Ironic for Cotterill, anyway.)

Lloyd - If there was any confusion in the first place, I can't see Coventry as rivals to any of us at the moment. With home attendances of around 12k and no money, they're not coming back any time soon.

Strett,,quite simply......yes they did ..... and yes Liverpool have....Daglish....iconic,Rodgers and SOD.....not iconic
Simples....you have merely changed your opinion to suit the situation as like the rest of Notts you are slowly realising that it's a longer road than you first expected when filled with Kuwati camelsh.t

Dungeon- I agree.

Also, doesn't whether you consider Cov / Forest as rivals depend largely on what part of the county you come from?

Toronto education time.........as you are such a lover of history ...if you check our history, older fans such as myself hate Notts Forest due to a certain Mr Matt Gillies, it has sweet FA to do with geography....fact that's why younger pups dislike Derby (due to recentish games between us) Coventry, when they used to have a team were the real geographic rivals due to being the closest team to us. Lesson over.

SOD a decent manager, whos Donny team played attractive,on the floor football. Before his appointment 90% of Forest fans would have been happy to see him fill the Managers chair, but with the millions sloshing about in our coffers we got sidetracked and expected someone "iconic" Thank God that did not happen. I only hope we hit the ground running, as we all know how fickle Forest Fans can be.....

Wigston - not just Chairmen, fans too....

It does depend on which part of Leicestershire you come from: Hinckley -> Coventry, Loughborough -> Forest, Ashby -> Derby.

But overall I've found the feeling to be that we like to laugh at Coventry while the team we prefer to beat is Forest. Based on Strett's article the other day, if we were to win at the City ground on the last day of the season and get promoted in the process we'd be delirious and probably create DVDs of the match to sell in the club shop for years to come.

Makes sense.

Are we really having a sensible discussion on here?

I'm in the process of turning over a new leaf.

Tell your friends!

That's not to say I won't engage in banter from time to time. Just a little less frequently....

To be fair Toronto, it's sensible because everyone is talking sense.
should be a good few weeks for you guys as your dealings are going to come thick and fast.
Just hope your owners don't push these Kuwaiti players on your manager.

"Icon"

A person or thing regarded as a representative symbol of something.

---

Purely subjective, SOD may be perfectly representative of what the new owners want to do. For example, produce a good footballing team without breaking the bank.

I'll admit, I had a little snigger when I heard the news last night. But, as seems to be the general consensus, it's actually both a decent and sensible appointment to have made.

I was genuinely hoping NFFC ended up with a Hoddle, a Sven or better still a Billy, but on the plus side i'm glad McCarthy seemingly rejected the job.

Honestly think this is the best first step for the new owners. SOD already knows the club and the players here, so he can effectively get to work on day one, without having to find out who's who.

What we will find out now though is how insistent the new owners are in pushing Kuwaiti players into the club. I've seen some good stuff from some of them, but that was on youtube and it WAS the Kuwaiti league.

SOD strikes me more as a continental-type 'coach' as much as he is a typical English manager - the potential appointment of Steve Coppell as DofF would fit with this, and may explain Mad Micks apparant rejection and any other difficulties in appointing a "big name". Assuming this is the structure they have wanted all along.

Blimey, can it really be true? Tonto's record has finally come unstuck? Is there perhaps a road to Damascus in Canada?
