Famous fans of the club include F1’s Mark Webber, Eurythmic’s Dave Stewart, Steve Cram, Sugar Ray Leonard and intrepid reporter Kate Adie.

It’s not all A-List celebs at the SoL though, as Phil ‘Tango’ Brown is a fan, as are curiously-coiffed Pet Shop Boy Neil Tennant and psychotic parasite Heather Mills.

Players to have suffered the indignity of playing for Sundertoon before realising their dreams and playing for Derby include:

Ron Hindmarch: one of my boyhood heroes, absolute rock, sadly now passed on

Colin Todd: Noted by Clough as he coached SAFC’s youngsters, Todd signed for us in 1971 and won the league twice, Texaco Cup, Charity Shield and was voted PFA Player of The Year 74-75

Marco Gabbiadini: The prolific-if-indescribably-ugly striker signed for us via Palace, to whom SAFC had sold him ‘to replace Ian Wright’.

That’s all the information tinerwebsuperhighway had on this Mackem minnow of a club; please share any insights or pearls of wisdom you may have gathered yourselves below, in respectful fashion:

are we in the Premier league

Ahead of their keepers they have woman-toucher and rapist’s-brother Titus Bramble, who evidently has a better defence in court than he’s ever managed on a football pitch.

Brilliant 666, just brilliant.

A very enlightening precis. Hope the lads appreciate it.

Howay man!!!

Having been to Sunderland on numerous occasions in my working life they require all that extra seating as the average Sunderland fan requires two seats.

It is a club of contradictions as regards nicknames. They are either Mackem so called because they make ships. However they no longer make ships. They are also known as the black cats which is a bit of a puzzler considering they play in red and white stripes.

They call themselves the "Black Cats" largely due to their inability to understand the modern world; they're still convinced of the magic of the world, of elves and pixies and magical dragons such as this:

If you ever have occasion to have a Mackem in your home, you'll often find them peering around the back of the television to find the little people they've seen within. They're thinking of renaming it Colbiville.

There can be few remaining posters on this site who can remember, as I do, the old 666, the one who used to occasionally border on the entertaining, as opposed to the current curmudgeonly carper and purveyor of prejudice.

It's a welcome return to form, though I expect this will have drained all of his reserves of good humour for some time to come, so we can once again "look forward" to the same dreary old tripe in the near future.

Good Effort 666, a bit too long though.

It's like being told by Heather Mills that I'm a bit hysterical.

Good job though 666 and well researched thought i'd give you five stars and post my smiley seperatley in order to boost your comments section. Just to quash any rumours of a training ground bust up between the former and current POTY.

I bear you no grudges; it's not your fault these people are too awestruck to vote as they should've

It's all politics, innit.

You bear no grudges 666! That's like saying birds don't have feathers.

Fun read as always; lets hope that Sunderland's fans know it is all in jest.

Tis true and after Colbi wins this years vote I look forward to being humble again.

That was one of my favourites, though, as my sporting hero Chris Eubank is always at pains to point out, "absinthe makes the heart grow fonder"...

Love the first 2 lines as well

Bravo 666.

As always 666 great entertainment value, and five stars for the article. Few things about Sunderland of my own, been to Roker Park on many occasion, there used to be a pub round the corner called The Derby, where Rams fans used to meet up and have some good banter. Good old days. I remember the season where they were the top of the league, then we played them at the Baseball ground, and took them off the top spot. I remember the time that Sunderland fan chucked his season ticket at the manager after we trounced them, I'm sure it was the first game of the season.. So many good memories of Sunderland Cracking Club and cracking fans..

I've just seen three one stars!!! Why anyone would give this article one star is beyond me??
666 has got his opinion on the manager, like I have mine on GSE, so when he does an article like this, why can't people appreciate the well written piece he has done, and forget about all the differences, it's just a laugh at the end of the day. We need to stick together as one, cause at the end of the day we're all Rams fans.
