Gerrard's last good season was in 08/09 anyway.
He was awful in Rafa's last season, and has struggled for form and fitness in the last two campaigns, so it makes perfect sense to start looking at longer-term replacements. In fact, it would be negligent not to.
At least in Brendan Rodgers we have a manager who'll try and maximize Gerrard's effectiveness - he'll either give Stevie a kick up the backside and make sure he doesn't let three quarters of a game go by, otherwise he'll find a dangerous role for him or drop him.
Either way, we won't be seeing Stevie faffing about looking to play Hollywood passes and losing possession cheaply in dangerous areas. I don't think we've had a manager who's been strict enough with Stevie since Rafa- and for the sulking Stevie did at the time, he later admitted that Rafa was right.
He's ridiculously talented, but he does need a manager breathing down his neck to keep him on his toes.
