Can't argue with the bookies. They get paid for getting it right.
Not a betting man so I think 'odds' are worthlessly pointless tbh
Bet you they are not worthless
I don't think the odds are very realistic - No signings covering the problem areas, best on offer is that it will be the same team as last year plus a few people who either haven't played for a while or can't get a game at tier previous club..
I would have been tempted at 5/1 but 5/2 seems poor value
I don't follow you there Bill.
We needed a right full back and Robbo got a good one. We were short of a striker who knows where the back of the net is and Robbo got Lowe. Even if he is still after another centre back and a wide player we have cover in those areas as well as trying a three man midfield.
I'm not being complacent and would have liked 3/1 odds, but I don't bet either. So 2nd favourites seems a good call.
Furz,
If Jon Otsemobor is a good right back, how come he only played 26 games for Wednesday?
If Lowe is the answer to the attacking question, why did he only play 26 games for Wednesday and only score 1 goal every 3.5 games, I think someone asked the wrong question.
But then again another answer might be Deon Burton, so god knows what that question was - What striker looks older than Wrighty
Bill.... What you have to remeber about players from Wenesay is that their style of footy (or so called hoofball style) does not suit certain players. look at Potter, Wednesday supporters thought he was pants and look how well he did last season. Beevers was not rated that highly but excelled in our team. I believe these 2 new Wednesday rejects will be great in our squad. The 10 mins I saw of Lowe the other night looked promising. He played some good touches and passes and should have got the penalty after a great headed flick on to himself.
Thats true, I guess I should hold judgement until a couple of months into the season. It's just I don't feel as confident as I did before the start of last season.
When we signed Charlie MacDonald he had pretty much started the season on the bench at Brentford, I was not pleased with the signing at all as it showed little promise and hardley any ambition signing a player to lead our line who wasn't even in the first team of a squad that finished below us. But regardless how many goals he has or hasn't scored imo he's been a terrific signing and his work rate helps the team a great deal. You could sign anyone out there who's not good enough for one team, but could be a great signing for another as long as you have the strengths to improve them.
Jon never played at Wednesday a fair deal last season as he was struggling with injury problems. And you have to remember Ryan Lowe was only there for a season which is effectively a short time to be at one club. He couldn't get into the team as Nile Ranger and Michael Antonio (Who impressed) was brought in for half of that. Prior to these arrivals he played a fair bit of football, and when he signed for Wednesday he was a much sought after player who was attracting attention from other clubs in the Championship as well as League One.
Lowe's 26 games for Wednesday 15 were as sub so he's goal ratio is a lot better than it looks and Deon Burton's gone to Gillingham (A shame he didn't go for Burton).
Otsemobor is coming back from injury so he is a risk, but if we no better than last season we still finished 5th and can do better this season.
Should have been "if we are no better".
All the comments from the Wendie fans regarding Lowe was very positive. Lets see on Otsemobor once he actually plays. No idea why you are less positive compared to last season. We have kept the squad intact, added 2 signings, and will probably be adding at least one more and maybe a couple of loanees. Who knows maybe Beevers will be back on loan and we are about to sign a s hot winger.
I still think this will be the best chance we have of going up
Have you signed Anthony Kay from us ?
No news about that here - good luck to the terrierers in the coming campaign - hopefully your (well deserved) absence this season in L1 will give us more of a chance to go up
Wetherby - Is he any good?
! Same to you, hope yourselves and Sheff
U do it, Doncaster in the play offs.
Kay good central defender, we played him in midfield, ar i say a decent League 1 centre back!
Thats what we need a good CD (not musak) - good to see that Yorkshire is now ahead of Australia in the olympics
