united city and chelsea are guarenteed top four. arsenal with their signings look very good. if they keep van persie as well then they will be top four guarenteed also. we need to get a move on. Us and spurs are way behind. quality cheap players are available yet we appear to be sitting there waiting for someone to buy carroll or agger so we can buy an average player in joe allen.

I put it down to Kenny's lack of tactical nous

We bought Kenny's picks. I still think most of them will come good to be honest.

ernie you seriously following the line. "anything can happen. thats football?"

buying youth used to be the cheap way of getting a quality player. now its the other way round. we need to realise that. i don't want borini to be good in 3 years time. we need borini to be quality now. we should be showing more urgency in trying to get into the top four.

Philo, we're not getting top 4 this year, probably not next year too. Everyone will be better off just realising we are what we are and it's going to be a bit of a struggle getting back to where we were.

Half Kenny and half the transfer Policy...

Looking outside the box and the fact Liverpool tried to punt Carroll in January with a swap for Tevez clearly we knew in January we needed a striker but never went and got one... With their being more players going out the door I 100% believe FSG refused to go out and buy a striker untill they sold or offloaded another player and last season we payed the ultimate price... I believe we are in a process after spending 11 million where we have to sell to buy and I also believe we are not going anywhere fast with this policy for this I blame FSG!!!!

maybe so but if you buy potential and they turn out to be quality in 3 years time thats great. but even if that happens, the good players we currently have will have left and then the players that have come good in 3 years time from now will be replace them. it will just end in a cycle of buying young and selling quality. we should be showing more ambition

Philo, they showed ambition last year, it came back twice as fast and smacked them in the face, you can't blame them for taking a more cautious approach this time around.

I'd be more worried if they hadn't learned from last years mistakes.

i don't blame FSG either. they've sorted us out after the hicks and gillett disaster. at least now we have a platform from which we can attack the top four. i blame the managers who are spending all their budget on overpriced young players. why buy a player with the potential to be good when you can get a player who is already good for the same price?

last year was a complete joke. everybody wanted top four. we had a budget for top four. yet we bought players who might come good in a few years time. just stupid

Exactly and Arsenal have never FINNISHED 8th since the PL started I don't think and have been in top four for something like the last 17 years so they started on a much better platform than where we are at now...

Do you mean doing an Arsenal, always have the potential but never getting to the stage where the potential turns into class.Players sold at massive profits etc.

Only thing Liverpool got wrong was paying money normally associated with the finished article on players with only potential

exactly!!!! arsenal payed fee's of £2million. if it doesn't come off then its no biggy. but we payed 10 times that for jordan henderson. at this moment he looks rubbish. that £20million could have gone a player of the quality of santi cazorla.

Like I say all the time these days the fact 11 days before the season starts the fans are split so much on opinions and some (quite a few) have little faith in Liverpool doing well this season, for this alone 2 years into their ownership I personally feel so far they are failing us....

Never as a LFC fan should any supporter be dreading a season starting however this year that's the case with many fans and that's because how poor our team is and how little we have done to sort it...

"jordan henderson. at this moment he looks rubbish."

Henderson has huge potential. He is definitely not rubbish

I think our squad is far better than made out. Some players struggled in their first season and confidence was low.

to answer why man united need to spend...

two of their more creative players are both approaching 40. one has already retired only to return. for a team crying out for creativity these two need replacing and soon.

their midfield is still terrible and still fergie doesn't get anyone to play there. cleverly looks decent, but press them high up the pitch and they get overrun every single time.

ferdinand and vidic both aren't getting any younger and have had injury problems. evra has looked a liability for over 2 years.

the only reason the title went down to the last game of the season was due to the different mentality at both manchester clubs. as much as i dislike man united and fergie, credit where credit is due - he has bred the winning mentality in all of them. they know how to handle the pressure of the title run-in.

man city on the other hand have many egos and getting them to play as a team is a hard enough job as it is. no one knows whether ballotelli will score a wonder goal or get sent off in any game he plays. the first title is always the hardest, but now they've experienced it they'll handle the pressure much better next season and i don't think anyone will get close to them.
