I know they are all getting carried away over a pre season friendly run-out. Agreed we need a striker. But I suspect come the Newcastle game we will have one, plus players like Kaboul, Sandro and probably Modric all starting.

Panicking over an experimental pre season friendly really is daft. Chelsea lost to Brighton & Hove last week with a top squad, they ain't panicking. So why are some of fans worrying after this game???? Ffs!!!!

I agree. I think though that it's the whole Modric saga repeating itself and a lack of strikers that are driving this frenzy of negativity though. I think if we had signed Ade by now we would be much more optomistic, even though I'm not sure he's the answer.

Just goes to show some of our fans really know about the game to be honest, if we won 4 0 tonight and looked amazing it would not have counted for nothing come newcastle, its about fitness and sharpness results and performances will come, i agree we all know we need a few more players but its not easy and im glad we are just signing anyone, if we are going to give AVB a chance its a long term thing and panic buying will not work.

Better to get the losses out the way before the season starts, since you've lost to valencia you'll now have something to work on and put right rather than winning and being blindly confident

i thought tonight was a great work out and that there were a number of positives.

Didn't watch the game so can't comment on the performance, but I was at the lane a couple of years ago and watched guiseppe Rossi take us to the cleaners when villareal beat us 4-1 (dos santos looked good that day). If anything it's a wake-up call. Better to lose now and correct things now than getting spanked in a league game. What was the score tonight anyway?

i dont care who we were playing .. without any strikers we will not have a good season. Ade scored 17 and 10 assists, if he does not sign who replaces those goals

Before AVB signed we were already getting Sigg and Vertonghen so he has not brought in 1 player of his choice which is amazing for a new manager of a top club

eh, where are you getting this from? The vibe im getting is hes quality and despite a non perfect start he will be a success.

Reactionary knee-jerkers galore mate - they don't understand that pre-season should never be used solely as a gauge, mainly just as a fitness exercise.

Our 2008 games we smashed all and sundry, scores tons of goals culminating in a 5-0 romp v Roma when Bentley looked the real deal. I'm not sure what happened in the first 8 league games though...

2009 I'm we had a pretty low-key pre-season, the highlight being a couple of narrow wins v West Ham and Hull in the Far East, and we went on and had a fantastic season

2010 we got demolished by Villareal at home too and went on to get to the CL QFs and narrowly miss out on the top 4

Dont think anyone is really saying pre season form has a sayig on how we play in the season , just why cant we ever get to the week before the season starts with a full squad ready to go
