Morning all.

Good too see the relegation battle is finally warming up. A few weeks ago I thought there wasn't really going to be one except for perhaps the last slot.

Guti has shown signs in his career that he might be capable of playing professional football in his position though.

Goals are the hardest part in football. It's the only part of football where you can't kick the ball anywhere you like - you have to get it into a small space protected by a goalie that can even use his hands.

That's why no self-respecting footballer would play in a position that reduces his likelihood of getting goals, regardless of the club and the money involved.

All the best footballers are the goalscorers.
That man Miller is much better than, say, Raphael Varane, who's still young - he might one day improve enough to get moved closer to the opposite goal, but it's unlikely. Players don't normally improve that much, it's normally the opposite.

Take Lotthar Matthaus for example. He was pretty good at the start of his pro career, so he played quite close to goal, but as he got older he became worse and had to play further and further back. At the end he was so rubbish he ended up playing as a central defender. If he had lasted any longer, he'd have ended up as a goalkeeper, which are the most rubbish players on any team.

Ever since you start playing at school, the better kids are the ones who score. The rubbish ones are picked last and told to defend, and there are often arguments to avoid playing in goal.

That's the true reason Cesc went to Barça. He'd improved and thought it was time he was played somewhere where he could get more goals and recognition, and Barça offered him just that.

It's a credit to Miller that he's gone to a smaller club where he can continue scoring goals instead of cashing in as a midfielder in a bigger team.

Varane has a better goal scoring record than that man.

How is Varane getting on at Real? I've read lots of glowing reports about him, not just from journalists but also players like Didier Drogba

Apparently Arsene tried to sign him while he was at Lens

renoog - I rated him very highly before the Clasico i attended.

I now rate him as by far the top young defender in the world. He has immense pace and reading of the game, if he bulks up he will be monstrous.

Glowingly.

All round he's done so well, but if I had to single out one specific aspect of his game, his tackling is a thing of beauty, he times them so incredibly well. Or maybe it's just an aspect of the game we're not all that used to in Spain.
