That's a great shame, but he will no doubt be glad to be alive. He could still be involved in football in some way and I wish him all the best and for the future.
Sad to hear the news about Fabrice, was at the game when he collapsed and since have had alot of respect for Bolton and your fans the way the club handled the situation.
At least hes well and alive
Good luck in the new season, Hope to see you back in the PL.
Good luck in all your future endeavours Fab
Shame he's been forced to retire. But he's alive and well which everybody would've taken back when it happened.
Hopefully, he'll still be involved with the game and the club. Either way, good luck to him in the future.
A good player and person too, such a shame he has to retire but i hope he remains involved with football.
His son still has a Daddy..
That's all that matters really. Hope Fabrice stays in the game in some capacity and enjoys his life.
Can't say I'm at all suprised really.
Just hope Fab's took it well and finds something worthwhile to do in football.
Like everybody else I'm glad he's healthy - I'm curious though, do we get our money back via insurance?
Sometimes there are more important things than playing football, living and being with your family are two of them.
Hopefully the Wanderers will find a role for him.

Nothing wrong with being pragmatic I suppose.
As he had been with for 4 years prior to signing a new contract, his purchase price would have been fully amortised by now, so effectively he would have carried no value as an asset.
I doubt insurers insure footballing against career curtailment anyway. It would be like insuring F1 drivers for whiplash injuries.
I know players pay insurances both privately and via the PFA to assist with sustainance in these instances.
Personally, I'm not surprised, I am relieved though.
The thought of that happening to him again makes ME shudder - so what must it be like for his family?
A good decision Fab - go with our good wishes, we will miss you.

You just made that up, you have no idea whatsoever, Bricks.
If you look at the club accounts, which you are found of doing, his registrations will have contributed towards the assets column. He had a salable value.
There is every chance the club will have been insured.
Interesting, thanks bricks.
Isn't it arguable that we've lost a young English midfielder who probably raised his value from the initial purchase price?
A player is amortised over the duration of the contract largehat with the value being fully deducted at the end.
It is very clear in our accounting policy.
It doesn't mean the player is worthless, just that he wont be shown as an asset. If he is sold, it is income from player trading where it shows up in the accounts, again stated clearly in our accounting policy.
That is why we always give an intangible fixed asset value that is suprisingly low, but the board quote an estimate of what they believe the squad is worth on realisation.
OK, and this means the club won't have its players insured against career ending injury and illness because...?
well thats cleared that up

I can imagine some of the clauses & exclusions now.
"When the team fly to Dubai, the players & staff must travel on 30 seperate flights to avoid the possibilty of squad annhillation in the event of a planecrash".
Bricks, it's time to come clean. Admit you haven't a clue what the insurance position is. There's nothing wrong with that, none of the rest of us know either.
Reebok and Largehat, please don't hijack this thread with your bickering.
Glad he's safe and wish him well. If there's any insurance/money worry around this it's what kind of settlement he'll get, not what the club can salvage
toadie, thanks, but we're not bickering, we're discussing whether the club is insured. That might not be an issue to you, but if Reebok Bricks and I want to discuss that, it's relevant, so we will.
Good luck Fabrice in life, happy to see he decided to play it safe I wouldnt want to see a repeat of it. Lets hope the club have a role for him if he wants it.
Only decision that could be made..His health is all that matters...Best wishes to him and his family...
PS those in row z will be relieved .
The actual transfer fee has absolutely zero to do with a players value anyway. That transfer fee is purely to compensate the other club. It is not a player valuation, strictly speaking. It is compensation.
Of course, I'm sure clubs are able to take out insurance on a player. I imagine Real Madrid would have covered themselves when paying for Ronaldo.
Cannot believe a discussion on accounts it being taken place when a footballer almost died........unbelievable
I cannot believe that someone can be offended by pragmatism.
