Rooney wasn't half as bad as people are making out. Everton were just set up perfectly and we couldn't get through to their goal, and at the other end, they took advantage of our defensive issues, no point blaming individual players.
The team had a wake up call and we'll bounce back against Fulham.
This season, for the first time in a while , Rooney's place in this team should be in real danger. Lets say RVP finds his Arsenal form, and Kagawa carries on putting in the kind of performance he did last night (where he was brilliant), why should Rooney's place in this team be guaranteed? It shouldnt be, especially if he carries on like last night.
I just dont understand the people who think he should start every game without question.

Funny thing is I agree with this. His first touch was better than most games last year - the differnece is we lost this game. The other games we won so that papers over the cracks.....
But apparently I am a WUM for suggesting that his overall game was poor...

I honestly think if RvP and Kagawa started tearing up the league, SAF would play Rooney on the left, not drop him to the bench.
Our whole team was poor, apart from Kagawa.
Nani was our worst player IMO, should we drop him too?
Nani was poor, I hate his corners, why can't he beat the first man, and why isn't someone telling him not to take them?
apparently not, i wrote this a few days ago

"Nani was our worst player IMO, should we drop him too?"
Difference is, Nani does get dropped when playing poorly.
For what its worth, I still think Rooney should start on Saturday. But the big question flying about amongst United fans at the moment is whether or not Rooney is droppable. And with the additions of RVP and Kagawa, he most certainly is.
He is droppable to us, but I don't think he is as such for SAF...
He should have been permanently dropped when he held the club to ransom!
Rooney has been dropped before so will be even more now we have RVP and kagawa.
Seems so sloppy atm - maybe a rest for a few games will do him good.

Bit unfair... De Gea was fantastic. Got a cheeky hit to the face that I thought would put him off coming for balls but the next one in, he was on the end of it.
Vidic also played very well considering it's his first competitive game in months (and playing alongside Carrick).
Cleverly was solid enough I though, not his best but ok, was let down by the others not creating enough space
Kagawa was immense - looking forward to seeing this guy play week in week out
Evra was quite but I am sure he was put on a leash by Fergie, as was valencia...
"maybe a rest for a few games will do him good."
Rest? He's only played one game!
Has Rooney ever being dropped for playing bad? Or because he had a night out and showed up a bit tipsy for training?
I know he is a professional, but I honestly do not believe Rooney gives it 100% against Everton until it looks like we are losing especially at Goodison.
Can anyone remember him ever having a good game against them?
I might be wrong as I am getting alzheimers, but it is my opinion.
So I wont be judging him on last nights performance.
Evra as much as I like him does these days appear too easy to read - lets face it he will run down the wing, pretend to go inside then surprise, surprise carry on down the wing and try and get a last minute cross in.
I could have done better!
That was a joke I played 5 aside once for a pub team and had to have a sleep after 10mins I was knackered!!
I aint too worried though, after just one game because last season after the first few games I honestly thought this was the most exciting team we had to watch for years, then injuries set in and ZZZzzzzville followed - the rest is history.
So this time lets start off cr@p and then with the new additions in tow hopefully we will fulfil last seasons promise!
You're allowed to criticise anyone! I did it to Nani last night but Rooney is amazing and once he scores a couple of goals than the rest will follow. Forget everything else we expect from him, he is a striker and all that matters is that he scores goals. I suspect that will start with Fulham on Saturday.

Yes he had extra time off because of the Euro's so missed the hard part of pre season so is playing catch up. Welbeck was the same last night i thought.

When he was sent to america to train he wasnt playing well and was unfit.

.............................................................................
Amazing at what exactly, certainly not football
He was sent to America to recover full from his ankle injury, and to train away from the English media whilst the contract talks were going down...

See I disagree with your point. If we play Rooney as our main striker and he gets plenty of goals, then I don't care how he plays....
However, if we have RVP up front and to accomodate Rooney we play him in the hole (and Kagawa on the left), then this is what annoys me. He is not playing well enough to be playing there. Means we lost Kagawa's full impact as we are playing him out of position just to accomodate an off form Rooney...
Arewedereyet
He is great at
Scoring goals
Passing the ball
Penalties
Free kicks
Helping out in defence
What else do you need? He is the best player we have and people on here have very short memories.
Walk alone
We will play with Rooney and RVP up front with Kagawa behind them. Take no notice of last nights forward line, RVP wasn't fit enough to start.
Once RVP and Rooney get some game time together and learn how to function as a partnership they will thrive and score plenty of goals just as Yorke and Cole did but this time with Kagawa feeding them the ball.
We really don't need a new Rooney thread. Just read/respond to the following instead.
