Should we be asking why he did so well at Porto then, rather than why he did so badly at Chelsea?
That's like asking why Mcleish did so well at Rangers.
You would think poor AVB would have sat back and had a long think about what went wrong at Chelsea and learnt from his mistakes. Especially with the media publicising everything that ousted some of the CFC old boys.
From what I can see of his time at Spurs, he is going down exactly the same route.
I think McLeish had varying success at other clubs though like Birmingham City and Scotland
International management is a different ball game. We can discount that from the comparisons. At Birmingham he ultimately failed and at Villa he failed too.. At Rangers, in a league where there are two dominant teams, he succeeded with flying colours. AVB succeeded with flying colours at Porto but failed at Chelsea.
AVB wasn't really given very long at Chelsea though. For all we know he could have become a success given more time.
McLeish having promoted Birmingham City to the PL and won them a Carling Cup, I'd say he did ok there in spite of the relegation that followed.
Alex and Anelka didn't want to play for Chelsea, AVB made them train separately when they both wanted to leave. Why is it that every time a player is sold or a player gets dropped under AVB it had to be him alienating a squad, and that they have to be losing faith in him? He probably won't be given a proper chance again the rate this is going.

Fingers crossed.
Why do you hate AVB so much Mrs Chelsea?
You loved him when he joined you?
Because he's a moron. Who said I loved him when he joined us? Got any proof of that?
All the Chelsea fans hailed him as the next best thing, you all raved and loved him, then he ruffles a few feathers and you get all precious and you turn on him!
Let him have his chance at a club like ours!
All the Chelsea fans? ALL of them?
I remember quite a few Chelsea fans sticking up for him when he was sacked, saying how much they thought the Chelsea divas that led to it were the fools.
