consilio - you missed out Petter Rudi, Klas Ingesson, Wim Jonk!

While I agree that JOC will never get into an Owls all-time XI (he may not even get into a 2011/12 first XI) Meggo was probably right to keep him given that he has had to cut the wage bill and seems to be struggling to get the right players in. JOC will at least plug a hole from the bench and if he'd been allowed to leave as well the squad would be even shorter on numbers than it is at the moment......And I'd rather have a limited player who will at least put a shift in than any of the three lazy bar stewards named above.

Consilio,

That list of midfielders is stomach churning reading! Could it get any worse? Hopefully we have some balls in our midfield this season.

JOC cannot pass, cannot time a tackle but he runs up and down and side to side like a dog on base. He irritates the living hell out of me and for some reason we have still kept him on.

Megson must have a use for him, even if it is just to bamboozle and perplex the opposition rather than being effective in any way, shape or form.

I reckon we're in better shape than last season, and with players on board that are keen to prove a point.

Petter Rudi, theres a name...I once posted an Owls worst 11 with him as left winger...and got slated for it, the few times I seen him play he didnt look intrested, looked like a rubbsh version of Waddler...and im not slating the great man here BTW just for his build i meant. For me he wasnt as good as people made out...but like I said I only saw hima few times but in those games he didnt impress me

Petter Rudi was "sold" to us as the new Waddle. As you say Mighty Milan he had the same shrugged shoulder look as Waddle and even less speed!! He had a few good games but ultimately he was one of those players we bought just after the early 90's squad was broken up that was going to bring back the glory!!

Boy, we really bought some garbage foreigners in the mid-90s!! I think Pleat bought Rudi, as a manager he made some huge mistakes in the transfer market.

Apart from Booth (though no world beater but scored a fair few), Di Canio and Carbone, cannot think of any other player that had a fraction of what they had that the Pleatifier signed. Actually wasnt it Big Ron who signed Rudi?

posted on 18/7/11

Mighty Milan, he was signed by Pleat in October 1997, so was one of his final acts of sabotage at Hillsborough!! Big Ron was appointed in November 1997, before finally realising that Pleat had effectively "scuttled the ship", so he hopped aboard the Villa cruise ship before we sank like the Titanic!!

Di Canio, Rudi & Jonk were Dave Richards signings. Pleat signed Booth & Carbone.

I could argue cases for some of the misfit midfielders mentioned but only JOC was offered a new contract after performing terribly.

If we had Petter Rudi now he would be our best player by a country mile (even at 45 or however old he is).

I saw him destroy Blackburn away in the Premier League. Not sure Sedgewick could do that.

Would a 45 year old Petter Rudi be better than JOC?

Did you ever see Scott Oakes, Danny Sonner, Paul McLaren, Ronnie Wallwork, Darren Potter, Lewis McMahon, Kenny Lunt, Craig Rocastle or many many other worse players than JOC play then? I guess not
----------------------------------------------------
Not sure that you did either.

Because none of those were anything like as bad as JoC. And Oakes was a winger/forward.

The only players close to JoC are Beswetherick, West, Olsen & Hendon.

But no midfielder has been as bad as JoC for so long.

----------------------------------------------------

Thats a no brainer if I ever heard one, a one legged & blind 85 year old Rudi would do a better job

What about Ashley Westwood, Ola Tidman (i know he's a keeper, supposedly, but still...), Jeffers, Knight, Lloyd 'blargh' Owusu, Brian Barry-Murphy, Theres been that much dross over the last ten years or so I cannot think of anymore

posted on 19/7/11

Jeffers is a good shout. Worst signing since pre-Charlton.

I think the thing about most of the dross is that they moved on pretty quick whereas JoC has been hanging around like a bad smell for years.

That he has regularly been given a starting place by several managers smacks of sorcery.

So Chupa, Craig Rocastle is a better player than JOC. Don't be soft.

posted on 19/7/11

imo Rocastle was decent player hounded out by boo-boys.

BTW is it necessary for you to be confrontational with every post you make?

People are allowed to have a different opinion to you without being called soft/drinking/not going to matches.

posted on 19/7/11

The point isn't who was the worst player. The point is that JOC is the worst player to be offered a contract extension.

What Steve said.

(But he is the worst player anyhow)

Yeah your right chupa, because you say so.

Anybody that thinks that Craig Rocastle was a "decent player" is clearly lacking. If he was a "decent player" then i'm sure he wouldn't have left us to later play in the Greek second division, the Conference South and the illustrious Southern League.

JOC on the otherhand has made over 500 career appearances and is a good, solid, reliable squad player who is blamed for everything that goes wrong at S6.

He's staying, get over it.

posted on 19/7/11

I'm with you on this consilio.
He's not Zidane, but give the guy a break. At least he puts a shift in, which is what's needed in this league. Hope he doesn't play much next season, but he'll be decent backup

posted on 19/7/11

I was with you right up to "good, solid, reliable squad player".....

Nurse!

posted on 19/7/11

If JOC plays anything like regularly then we will be nowhere near promotion.

He is not good, he is not solid and he is only reliable in that he will give the ball away, miss tackles, lose his man and only contribute in a negative way. That reliability we can do without.

Eh? Talk about projecting!

What a nob.
