9000 PL fans were surveyed.
Hardly a great coverage, even Wigan get more supporters at their games.
The article I saw it on was this one;

Just on case anyone was wondering.
I don't need stats to prove we have more local fans than Everton.
We have hundreds of thousands, they haven't.
The local fan jibes arise from lack of success - and the bitters know it
So basically they surveyed 9000 fans after a match and reported this as if it were fact
United are 2nd and Liverpool 5th most supported clubs in London
Sounds to me like they surveyed people after a united vs charlton friendly
D'Jeezus
Yeah I know. But it would have been done with a suitable sample. This is in order for the results to be used in a wider context. Surveys and experiments do this because it is not always possible, or practicle, to survey a huge sample of people. Or PL fans, in this case.
Thing is, 9000 divided by 20 would be 450 fans per team (assume for fairness of the survey all teams had same representation)
That is less than 10% of fans at a game for Arsenal, United, Liverpool, Newcastle etc.
Man U get 70000 every home game, Wigan are lucky to get 18000
As I said on the original thread this was posted on, you really do not need to do a survey to come up with this.
Apart from City, it is pretty much as you would expect.
Anyway I just think its interesting that, of those surveyed, only 19% are from the city!
66% surveyed support Liverpool, compared to 24% supporting Everton.
Another funny stat is that there's more United fans in London than there are Chelsea fans .

Not everything is as expected. We've been told for years that Everton have the most support in Liverpool, and we're all from Oslo. Turns out its not true .

Not that surprising, most Chelsea fans seem to be from Hampshire.
Red, its not a myth....I live 100 miles away from liverpool....But attend each home game
Its easy tho to buy a season ticket

Yes, but everybody knew it wasn't true.
You only have to walk around the city-centre on a non-match day.
(Though I’ve only done it once, because the Oslo flights are a bit expensive )
Vast majority of city fans are from SK postcodes in Cheshire but I would think it would depend on whether they asked match going fans or followers which would have vastly different percentages
Felliani's
I thought you lived round the corner, and could see Goodison from your bedroom .
Whats funny is that 65% of people surveyed in liverpool follow the RS....at the time of the survey.
But in total only 11% of your fan base live in the same postcode.
So, in summary....we have twice as many local fans as your lot does...
We could joke about Oslo, but we have supporters groups around the world too.
Who ever said they were born on Goodison Rd!

Same with us and the Blue noses.

That would require a very narrow definition of 'local'.
How many postcodes are there in Liverpool?
You have about a dozen fans living on County Road, and that makes up 19% of your fanbase.
Here is the L4 pstal area that covers both clubs

A bigger area than you had hoped for
