Been enjoying your LR articles..I didn't realise she was quite as talented.
Thank you!
She had some real challenges in last few years with growth spurt in height meaning it messed up all her serving and angles and then injury, but she is something special, and a breath of fresh air in the ladies game.
Heather Watson has something too, and with Johanna Konta making a breakthrough at this Slam, British ladies tennis is in good hands right now.
9th game, will Stosur hold her nerve and serve?
Slice of luck for Laura!
I was watching Johnson vs Gasquet, complete meltdown by Johnson.
Come on Laura! you can beat him, oops her.
Laura has an air of confidence in her after taking 2 big scalps out. She is the first British female since 1998 to reach a slam last 16.
Only started keeping half an eye on tennis after Wimbledon. Enjoyed the Olympic doubles final.
Come on laura, convert those half chances, you might not get many.
Admin, it's a great sport, very quick to pick up the rules and the ebb and flow of the game is great.
Great sport, no time limits, no coaching, facing each other, really gladiatorial.
TMF, him isn't wrong! Stosur has an incredible physique. Was talking to her fitness coach a few months back who reckoned 80% of women on tour are out of shape for what they need to do. Not saying Stosur is a nice shape, but compare her to others and you see how lean/efficient she is.
That sort of double fault was Robson's achilles heel, hope she forgets it quickly and comes back out firing on all cylinders.
Women cannot have this shape naturally, do you remember East German athletes or for that matter Flo Jo? There are suspicions about Stosur. Although I might not be fully agreeing with those however there is no smoke without fire.
What an anti climax this first set has been? gutted
You know me TMF, I don't believe in all the conspiracy/drug taking stuff unless something is proven and I dont think there are even allegations about Stosur, she just works incredibly hard.
Robson took Stosur all the way in first set against the defending champion, she's really not that far away. now is a great test of her tactical brain to see what she can differently to take the second set.
Stosur seems stronger mentally and that's the only thing seperating these two atm.
I think Laura is over-going for it, going for winners when just getting the return back in might be better.
Keep in the rallies and she has a chance.
So nice to see a couple of hard hitters not resorting to grunting.
Shame she bottled the first set. Dunno if she'll be able to get back into this match now.
Not exerting enough pressure on the break points. She needs to play crucial points better. Easier said than done
That was a mighty let-off
That's it, here comes the meltdown. Strange this sport is, she had the opportunity to break Sam but now it will be all but over.
That's why Stosur is a champion, she can step it up when under pressure.
Good thing is Laura is getting the break point chances, but you're right, she needs to start taking them, Stosur is playing more controlled this set.
Keep an eye out for Hlavackova as well, she won Olympic doubles silver and wore wellington boots for medal ceremony, she's transferring her form to singles now.
Come on Laura!
I can't believe how slow the live BBC teletext updates are. It was 2-1 in the first set on there when the first set had actually finished 6-4
It's all over. What an anti-climax.
Slow it down, really take it one point at a time, it's only one break.
Seems like the key to winning in women's tennis is to work out so much that you start to look like a bloke.
Now lets see if Stosur can hold her nerve and serving strategy.
