Much as I love Vito Chesney is on a different level.

Chesney was given the number one jersey this season for the first time, he is a much better goalie than Mannone and will defo be in goal whenever he is fit to play.

Mannone was decent, but it was the back 4 and Arteta that did the work. When Szczesny is fit, i want him straight back.

The Mert problems is a good one to have. Mert, Kosc and Verm. 3 top CBs.

We know what Arsene brings to the table. His ability to spot talent, bring individuals to the side and create a free flowing form of football is unmatched. Arsene has been praised for this for the last 16 years.

We now have what Steve Bould brings to the table. And that is defensive organisation. That's the biggest change in this side and that is what we're praising.

With the three CBs fighting for places, does anyone think 5-3-2 with three CBs and two full/wing backs would make sense? Between three midfielders and two strikers we obviously have enough firepower to get us goals, and five in defence would make us airtight.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I agree with Szczesny coming in, but the two centre backs have both been excellent in the opening three games.

I also saw a stat where it said the goals against column when we've had Mert and Vermaelen playing together is something like 0.6 per game with, but 1.4 without them both.

I know Koscielny's a great player, but he can't come into the side until our central defence do something wrong.

Szcz needs to come in the side whenever he is fit

per and vermaelen partnership is good for now but it is difficult to leave one of your best players on the bench!

Failing that, what about shifting positions around? We know Koscielny is quick - maybe he can play at right back until Sagna is fit again?

RuiCosta, I'd rather keep Jenkinson playing in position than our best CB playing out of position, look what it did to Vermaelen last season.

Jenkinson has got a huge amount of potential and leaving him in a settled back 4 will help him grow immensely.

I think we've got room for rotation. Against a team like Swansea I'd like to see Kos in there.

Haha, remember Silvestre's hatrick of assists for Messi?

I want Szczesny straight back in the team. Mannone isn't up to the challenge, he looked shaky on a few occasions yesterday.

Mertesacker should be allowed to stay on the team. But Bould (and Banfield) deserve all the praise they are getting, we have the same back four as last season Wenger can't really take the credit for it.

Mannone looks like he'll make a mistake at any time. But maybe he needs to have his faith rewarded.

I wont be too unhappy either way.

However, Mertesacker has still looked shaky and a bit of a risk at times. Even though I agree that his performances have been much improved and he's getting better with every game. He relies on reading of the game and it's important to have a defensive player like that to break the play up.

Koscielny is still more solid and he needs game time so he's match fit too. I'm sure Wenger will rotate a bit to keep players fresh and utilise Mertesacker more tactically when we need more height.

I think with the CO.C coming up, Shezzers will have his chance.

I am with all, stick with current squad. Southampton are a big tall team, and the likes of Jenko will help.

Mannone has done well last two games but Szczesny is a class apart and has to play imo.

mannone has managed well behind a well organised defense, he was flakey at some points yesterday as is expected for a 3rd choice. but without question chezzers should fit back in the no1 spot soon as hes fit.

I strongly disagree. When the CO.C comes up, Mannone will have his chance again. Szczesny is firmly number 1. Nothing i've seen has changed that.

But people deserve to have their effort rewarded. Like it or not, two of our clean sheets are Mannone's. As far as I'm concerned the onus is not on the player covering the injury, it's on the player recovering from it. If the understudy is good enough, he keeps the starting position and goes on with it, if not, he reverts to back-up and the starter returns.

Irrespective of how shaky Vito looked, he has conceded no goals, and our first win has come with him in goal, so I think he needs to stay in unless the worst happens. If he'd cost us points or even a goal then maybe you could make the case, but I don't see the justification.

Give Szczesny the cup games until he's fit or Mannone starts slipping. It'll be a good test of his character.

Still a long way to go with the defence.

What was up with that when 3 of our players couldn't clear the ball in the area and Sterling managed to get a decent shot in???

the bounce was a bit awkward, but whoever headed it should have just booted it instead.

That kinda was a half chance, as it it the outside of the point.
Mannone had that side of the post covered.

Every team will have some sort of chance/half chance. The defence's job is to limit it.
And they've done excellently so far.
