Will people stop ruling Gerrard out for crying out loud!

Its clear he cant play in the Europa on a Thursday and then play in a big game on Sunday. Lets not forget Gerrard is too adjusting to a new way of playing. If he is still ineffective after 6 or 7 games then maybe but for now he is still the main man.

And Shelvey who I think could replace Gerrard.

I agree with Kash, lets give Gerrard a chance..

What? In what games have you seen or what evidence is there to think that Shelvey will become even half the player Gerrard is......??

gerrard cant adjust,he is'nt disciplined enough,he can only play one way,and unfortunately as great as he's been for us,his days are numbered and he should'nt be viewed as the star man anymore.

I was certainly not saying that Stevie should never play for Liverpool again but rather facing up to the fact that he cannot last for ever.

Yes, Honestlivpool, I should not have left out Shelvey who could certainly be a future legend.

The fact that shelvey is not too dissimilar to gerrard at the same age.
I dont recall gerrard being under the shadow of anyone in particular when stepping up in the late 90s whereas shelvey has to move gerrard.
Shelvey is still learning and it is clear he is more rounded than gerrard was at the same age and more positionally aware and rodgers will help shelvey much like benitez helped gerrard.
Tbh it is harsh on shelvey to judge him by using memories of gerrard in his prime as a yardstick.

Well said, Stonfacd.

Rafa did not so much help Stevie, he figured out better ways to use him, because Rafa could see he was not going to be that good in a two man CM.

I posted the above comment in an article in April, 2012,

You posted that, a few weeks after Gerrard had single-handeldy put Everton in his pocket?
That was only about 12 league games ago.

Gerrard became famous for doing that, in games, but some people seem to lexpect it every game.and he only ever did it occasonally. Some players never do it in their entire careers.

Come back with another ‘prophecy’ when you’ve seen Shelvey do it.
Everything Rodgers has said so far about him suggests he disagrees with you, and the Sports Science people are saying he hasn't lost any fitness.

He was also, by wide consemsus, England's best player in the Euros, which wa after your prophecy.

Stonfacd in 2001 Gerrard was the same as Shelvey he was winning a treble and being highly instrumental while playing. I'm not sure what Gerrard you was watching but i'd take that Gerrard over Shelvey any day of the week.

Shelvey at the moment is still a prospect who has one good game and one poor game. He is not very consistent.

It was Redknapp and Ince in midfield as Gerrard was breaking through. Not easy to displace. Both played over 30 games that season.

Vidic

I agree but he also said that he restrained gerrards constant running to be more effective and efficient.

Benitez was able to basically make gerrard a more useful part in a team rather than having him run around constantly like a puppy on speed.
Shelvey is already like that and doesnt look for the hollywood pass all the time and is more assured in a short passing style.

However shelvey is missing the ability to change a game single handedly atm, but gerrard developed that with time and responsibility.

Kemlyn - If you think that Stevie is as fit and as fast as he used to be you must be living in fantasy land. This is not a slight on Stevie, not even he can turn back the clock.

Yes, he’s struggling with Buck’s style of play, at the moment, as are most of the rest of the team (apart from Joe Allen and Sterling).

But he still put in the best pass of the match, bending it around the centre-backs to put Suarez in with a shot on goal.

Are you for real? Have you really forgotten what the early Gerrard was like? Are you forgetting the 30 yard screamer in the top corner against United and how he dominated midfield from top to bottom so much that even Viera was in awe of Gerrard?

Rafa used him in a different way, he wanted his two sitting midfielders and found a way from wide and 2nd striker to get Gerrard to focus on doing damage in the opposition final 3rd rather than putting in slide tackles in our own half.

Oh yes. Of course. Redknapp who went on to play probably no more than 10 games in the next 4 years.

Either way, at this moment in time, i think shelvey better fits the way br wants to play. Also there was a certain lucas leiva that was displaying great talent but because he was substitute to alonso and mascherano he was being slated right left and centre. He was given responsibility he stepped up.
Gerrard was given responsibility after showing talent and stepped up.

I think shelvey will do so too.

Anyway. Ive said my opinion. Slate him as much as you want. Bottom line is he will be playing regularly for us in a few years or he will bring a good transfer fee because he will be wanted by teams in the prem.

Nice way of stating an opinion.
This is a forum for conversation. Not a platform for who can shout or or be more aggressive towards a fellow fan.

Ja606 has too quickly become like the old 606 unfortunately.

Well, that’s the 64-million dollar question, isn’t it?
Is Buck going to turn Liverpool into Swansea with better players, as he hopes, or just turn us into Swansea?

How well the best players adapt is going to determine that. At the moment, neither Gerrard nor Suarez have adapted very well, but it’s early days.

Stonfacd - if my responses to you seem aggressive then i apologise as that is my intention. There seems to be too many people having a dig at Gerrard which isnt nice. We just need to give Gerrard a chance and for us to get the best out of him then he should not play much part in the Europa cup.
