Mighty - Why would you want to overlook getting 2 chances to get CL? Play the kids or squad players if it's going to be a drain, and then if we get through and have a good chance start to take it seriously. It's entirely likely that even without it, we still may not be good enough for top 4 given the improvements of other teams.
Just because Liverpool are doing so well without it, doesn't mean we'll do as well. They have a world class player taking them this far, we don't, and probably won't next season either.

Don't get why people wouldn't want Europa if it offers a CL place. If we get a decent manager place then Europa is a must.

I just feel htat the EL is truly regarded as a 2nd rate comp. UEFA are trying from next season to give some credence by dangling the cherry of CL to the winner. Not researched it yet - will do tomorrow- but I'd wager that the recent winners of be EL have either been 3rd place drop outs of he CL or would have qualified in their own right for the CL in their league
You need a disciplined manager to p,ay the EL properly IMO, kids and 2nd string 11 in the away group games, first 11 for the home games if you are playing a lower team in the PL the following Sunday.
But it hasn't happened because our last 3 manager haven't a) had the discipline to follow such a programme or b) been frightened of failure

Mighty - Not all the teams that have dropped into Europa from the CL have won it. I think it's about even in terms of the CL rejects and those already in it.
Anyway I don't care about the prestige of the tournament particular, only that it gives a ticket to CL. Since it offers that then give yourself the most opportunity possible of getting CL by being involved in the competition. Surely the odds of getting CL are down if you're only trying for top 4 and that's it?
Just play the kids or the squad players and it won't be a problem.
