I don't think he is anywhere near good enough for us and frankly never has been.

So you don't want Evra or Carrick to start??

Who takes their place? Surely that would be a more constructive debate.

This guy is such an idiot, I really feel sorry for Carrick. He deserves so much praise for what he's put in for the side.

Whilst I don't beleive Carrick is up there with the worlds top midfielders I do think he's a very good player, easily our best midfielder.

As for Evra he's been poor for two years and started this season badly. But I can't say I'd prefer Buttner as I've never once seen him play.

Carrick is rubbish, the way he aims for a team mate and uses the easy pass is awful. Those 2 hoofs which picked out Van Persie at the weekend were terrible too.

Let me offer an unpedantic, non condescending, fully intellectual comment

You cannot read the game and should probably give up commenting on football

Oh gosh..

Nani, really? That's another player fairly overrated. It's obvious you don't get the game football.. Nani struggled to bring in width in the team and focuses on the centre way to often, this makes our midfielders look worse than what they are because there are no wide options and the opponent have it easier to read our play when we only play through the middle.

Carrick is more of a mental player than a physical one, but hey, he's quite decent, and at times brilliant. so it's not him who should be given the fault.

Evra has been poor defensly, and is the one player I really think that his days are gone. Involved in most of the goals we conside, latly it has been one every match almost.

2nd midfielder, a longside Carrick is also one of our weakest positions. Since we lack a physical player in Carrick we should have had it on the 2nd midfield spot. Fact is, even if Fletcher gets back, he's nowhere near what we need to match Real Madrid atm.

Another thing is the movement of our attack. Kagawa meets the ball, Valencia meets it, Rooney meets it, RvP almost always meet it, Nani meets it. We only have Young and Hernandez who tries to run in behind, which eliminate many attacking options like the one threatning the middle room. Also the wide room to the left, because both Nani/Welbeck are poor positioning. And Evra has lost it totaly on the left. Why do you think our right is so excellent? Because of both Rafael and Valencias wide play.

Another thing is Rio Ferdinand, too slow I'm afraid now, he was about 20 meters behind the defensive line of Evra Vidic and Rafael against Southampton(last game). Made their attacking easy as they could attack from the line and expect to beat Rio in the run. We didn't conside by this exactly last game, but we will. So a quick central defender alongside Vidic is what we need.

i know he's rubbish, i mean how dare an english midfielder pass it consistently to a team mate

I'm not an idiot because I don't agree with you. Don't be such a self righteous gimp. I just don't rate Carrick, get over it.

if i was of the opinion that santa exisited would you call me an idiot?

YouKnowWilson - I'm not sure how you can say I don't know football, then talk about how over rated Nani is, then in the next breath say how Carrick can be brilliant. Nani's brilliance is far higher than Carricks.

Yes, however that's a very juvenile comparison because he is a fictional character and your opinion is 100% wrong. My opinion that Carrick isn't good enough for United is one that's up for debate cause Carrick isn't that amazing and when your retort to an opinion is as childish a response as what you just gave, I .guess you just don't have any intelligent input to give

Talented as Carrick is he still makes the pointless passes, ones designed to retain posession without creating any real fwd movement with intent. I know there are loads of Carrick fans out there but i am sure you will all agree that he lacks enough attacking intent. Good as he was last season he still crambled when real opposition came. Tht said we still lack a defensive enough CM to partner Ando or Cleverly so Carrick's place is almost secure. Personally I think Ando deserves a starting place over Cleverly because at the end of the day he is our most attacking Midfielder. our attack is dulled by the combo of Carrick and Cleverly as they spent too much time passing saidways.

As for Evra, he is going down but noone can take his place, unless if we buy a new left back at world class level he remains our best guy at that position.

carrick is an excellent player and by far and away our best and most consistent mf player, obviously when scholes plays like he did on saturday then he is our best player never mind best mf, but for sheer consistency carrick is our best mf player, his intelligence is 2nd to none in terms of anticipating play and being able to intercept balls from the opposition and his range of passing once he gets the ball is also excellent.

Well said Mexican. Anyone who thinks otherwise probably thinks that we should have re-signed Robbie Savage back in the day to solve our midfield problem

never has a man with so little talent earned so much money from football as robbie savage, he's the johnathan ross of football.
