I just do not see how there can be any truth in this statement.

Your opinion in incorrect

Zoom and Digitech are pretty poor.

Roland are way better but the stock settings aren't all that. Tweak them and the clean tones in particular are very good.

Pete - Too much effort?

It depends where you start out. I started with bass guitar which built up my right-hand finger strength and co-ordination. Then went onto electric which strengthened the left hand, then moved onto acoustic which i was well prepared for.

Pete,

My next amp will almost certainly be a tube. Been playing through a Marshall AVT 150 and though it's great for rock the clean and blues tones aren't quite there. Hopefully the Roland will get me closer than the Pod I'm just about to sell.

Check out Tommy Emmanuel for some inspired playing on the wood. Also chet..segovia...mckee...etc

You said acoustic is too much effort for little in return?

I find acoustic so much more satisfying than electric. You don't need bass or drums to make a full sounding piece of music provided you have decent percussive skills.

My current pride and joy...1979 Yamaha SG2000S

When I got it the previous owner had stuck active pickups in it

Dropped in a set of Duncan Alnico Pro 2s, but kept the coil tap. (79s were produced before the push-push control)
