Yeah he didn't say that so I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with.
He isnt saying that
FFS, would our squad have been stronger with them? He wanted one of them by the way, not both
He also wanted Jovetic
"Signing one of those two, plus the tall, powerful, intelligent Jovetic, would have given Liverpool the squad we needed to build on the previous year’s title challenge, when we had run Manchester United so close."
I don't understand who Broughton would want to get rid of Rafa, he was only overseeing the sale of the club. Very strange.
build on means improve. improve on 2nd means first.
He hasnt said anywhere we would have won the league had we signed those players
So what if he had, you support us dont you?
He merely said improve, which those players added would have
Let's not forget we are only getting one side of the view. Rafa has been well known in the past to manipulate supporters into his own views.
the only way to improve on 2nd is with 1st. thats winning the league. yes im a red but those two and jovetic wouldnt have won us the league.

You really think it’s worth examining the views held by H & G?
We had Chartered Accountants choosing transfer targets, ffs....the club was a mess.

I don't deny the club was a mess but these accussations that Broughten wanted him out is just one side of the view. People like Broughten, Parry and Purslow have stayed tight lipped over that difficult period.

If I were one of those two, I'd keep it that way, now that we know they fancied themselves to run the footballing side of things.
It's accepted by everyone that Hicks and Gillet ruined the club that should've been in a far far better financial condition during those recent champions league years.
Rafa was in all probability on a big contract at Liverpool, whereas Hodgson would've been on less. Which is why they dispensed with Rafa's contract, though still at a cost.
Pity they couldn't see the big picture that Hodgson would never be as good a manager as Benitez.
Rafa thought there would be funds available, and Jovetic would've been a superb signing to play alongside Torres.
Distin as cover for the defence would've been smart too, see carraghers recent failings.
The amount wasted on getting rid of managers is crazy, Rafa, Hodgson and Kenny.
Couldve had a few extra for transfers if theyd held onto Rafa.
Surprised he wasn't even interviewed for the role!

We would have got better - doesn't mean getting 1st! If we came second on the last day of the season by a goal difference of 1, you wouldn't see that as an improvement?!!
the only way to improve on 2nd is with 1st
Wrong, and highlights that people on here seem to see everything in black and white.

I was never a fan of Distin pre his arrival at GP.
Can't count more than 4/5 mistakes that have cost us goals in that time...
Wish we had him at 25, just gets better with age (2 were against Liverpool)

I give up
I have rated Distin ever since he came in, I remember the rumors about him and was very happy about it. Instead we got the Greek
I agree with everything he said.
G&H ruined us.
Distan? Are you joking me?!
They would have improved the squad. And with Jovetic there would have been a fair amount of longevity too.
Everyone else was improving whilst we stood still.

As backup <cough>
Distin is a great defender still even at hos age.
I wonder if some people actually read an article or do they read the first paragraph and then apply their own story?
How anyone can say that the article says Distin and Jovetic would have won us the league is quite clearly an idiot or at the very least a moron.
Rafa's comments are absolute nonsense anyway, because those signings would definitely not helped Liverpool build on the previous season.
That's not a comment on Jovetic and Distin. However Rafa failed to replace arguably the greatest defensive midfield playmaker (or regista) that has ever graced the Premier League.
Sure you can point to Aquilani, but an injured, injury-prone player was nowhere near an adequate replacement.
Rafa is delusional if he think signing Jovetic and Distin would have made the difference x
