I thought I remember seeing stats that Valencia had been found to be the fastest with the ball.

u r right on the money op.
Tony V is the fastest player in EPL with and without the ball.
Howevr players like Hazard,BenArfa have vry good acceleration(comparable to Valencia).

In the world,i think Ronaldo is faster than Messi over a distance but Messi's acceleration is more.
Also, Lennon is much better with ball at his feet than Walcott. He may have less end product but he does not run in just a straight like like Theo!!!!

I don't think Hazard is as fast as Tony V, Ronaldo et all. He is more tricky, quick over small distances but not for long distance sprints.

I guess how you define 'at your feet'. If we are talking about completely close control, the ball basically touching the player's feet, then Messi is faster than Valencia. I.e. he can retain amazing close control of the ball at a higher speed. If we are talking about legging it down the touchline, the number of touches per metre and the average proximity of ball to foot is going to be very different and here we are measuring outright speed to a much greater degree.

I think we can safely assume that "At your feet" means sprinting the fastest without losing control of the ball.

In a straight line.

Depends, Bale is quick with the ball, but he doesn't have particularly close control.

Are we talking over 100m or 10m?

BB
Lets assume over 100m

i agree with RR, Valencia will pick the ball up and beat a man by knocking it past him and running, i'd hardly call that with the ball at your fight.

Ronaldo will run with the ball at his feet and beat a man through skill - i'd call that more mpressive.

There's a big difference between running down the flank with the ball (meeting a challenger perhaps once every 10-15 metres) and dribbling in the final third with lots of players around you.

I'm just pointing out that we could be comparing apples and pears unless we take this into consideration, and potentially coming up with stats that appear to tell us Valencia's pears are better than Messi's apples.

Toure is quick when he eventually gets going.

does bale count 'with the ball'? Considering his dribbling consists of punting it down the line and chasing.

I think Ribery is quite fast.

Surprised no one has mentioned Lucas Moura. Maybe people havent seen enough of him yet, but he is honestly one of the fastest players I have seen with the ball at his feet.

I hate to bring up FIFA, guys, but there is a player on it called Willian who has 99 speed and acceleration or something daft.

Anyway it coerced me to youtube him and it is quite silly how fast he looks in comparison to his, albeit not as athletic as a 'big league' player, opposition.

Giggs outpaced Sturridge last season at the Bridge and he is considered Chelsea's fastest player.

Anderson is very fast with the ball at his feet.

Now the deluge of negative comments

comment by Red_Indian aka Jones Is The Next Baresi . One moment he is the best striker in the world, the next he is old, injury prone and overrated. (U15493)

One of the things I will never forget is the first time I ever saw Giggsy live at OT.

God was he quick.
