Totally agree Jacko, its good that the truth has finally come out.
That sc um rag paper and its editor has a lot to answer for
I work with a lad that was actually there on that fateful day.
The Sun newspaper is never bought. Justice at last.
Excuse my ignorance but are you able to give me a brief explanation of what happened that day and what this investigation has bought to the for?
I was 9 when it happened and I've always felt quite affected by what I saw live that day on the TV. So I can only imagine what this did and continues to do to the Liverpudlian community.
The fact that the Police covered up the truth leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth. I don't give a rats ass how old he is now or the state of his health, that Dukenfield guy needs bringing to book along with all others involved in the cover up.
Also, "Sir" Irvine Patnik needs stripping of his knighthood for the filth he peddled to the media.
This whole affair makes me so angry. 96 innocent people dead and those in power just covered their own backside.
Hopefully the Attourney General orders a new inquest and we can finally see those responsible prosecuted to the full extent of the law, Thatcher included the snot nosed ignorant 'c u next Tuesday'.
To the people of Liverpool, I salute you all for keeping the faith in uncovering the truth and fighting for justice for those that lost their lives in that avoidable tragedy.

oOg,
Can you give me one reason to not hit the complaint button please?
I was watching Town that day v Chester, as the news filtered through..and the car radio had it on after the game. When I got home and saw it on TV, I cried my eyes out...and still do when I see the old pictures and newsreels. Like you Novak, it has left me very affected by it too, as I'm sure it has to millions who saw the events for that day on their TV's. Obviously nothing in comparison to those who were directly affected the events though.
Agree Dukenfield, who has been retired on full pension for 20 years, should be brought before the courts, as should the others who betrayed those fans and their families that day, and ever since..
Of seriously read the BBC news or any highbrow paper, before you get yourself banned through supposed ignorance, which is bordering ever so slightly on trolling.

The cover up by SYP is disgusting.
I know for one hope the ufamilies get the justice they deserve
Great article OP
It's taken far too long for the truth to come out. The number of individuals and institutions who have been complicit in covering up the truth is staggering. Jack Straw has today apologised for the failure of the judicial review that he ordered, to expose the truth. Did someone mess up or was that review just a whitewash that was only ever intended to cement the sun's version of 'the truth'.
The whole thing reeks. I can only salute the families for their tenacity and perseverance. Without their relentless efforts the truth would never have come out. They have fought tirelessly to remove the stain of blame and ensure that the finger of culpability is now pointed firmly at those whose actions and inactions caused what happened on the day.
I hope that those who have been complicit in the cover up will also be exposed and brought to task for their role in the obstruction of justice
5 Jacko for bring it to light.
('We' Knew all along)
the same happened the cup semi before leeds v coventry
it was pointed out in 18 seperate documents to the fa that hillsborough was unmanageable on the big occasions.. documents also show that the police wanted the ends swapped to meet the obvious extra demand from liverpool fans both with tickets and those travelling to the game without.
leppings lane had over 3000 leeds fans in it for their semi final, the crush outside just before kick off forced the opening of the same fatefull gate, allowing hundreds in without tickets. The difference in the 2 occasions being that the fans at the leeds game were successfully filtered into the various sections(fencing and cages was never, ever a good solution).
We who travelled to football at that time know how many used to go to the bigger games without tickets, its not a secret although its being treated a bit like one at this moment.
syp lying after the fact is unforgiveable and some senior officers and retired ones will have to be made to answer. The ones on the ground did, by all reports, everything they possibly could with little or no support or guidance from above and the ones that had their statements altered by others must be first in line to fully make that true statement again..
The fa new about the shortcomings, it was a disaster waiting to happen, the fact that it did and the authorities still were not prepared is another shocking indictment on all concerned.
As always its taken too long(in this case ludicrously ) for the truth to be dragged out... "justice delayed is justice denied"..
Gents, just wait for some of the enquiries that will come in the future about Iraq and Afghanistan... you just wont believe the findings of some of them.. In other words this is still going on ....
Egypt,
Libya,
Syria,
It's ongoing.
eye's wide SHUT.
the newspapers now carrying text like "can we ever trust the police again"??
ars-holes, its just as bad as carrying "the truth" headlines 23 years ago...
pro rata i firmly believe there are far more journalists who would do anything for a story than there are bobbbies who would do anything for an arrest..
the toadying to the people of liverpool from the press/media is almost as disgusting as the outcome of the enquiry..
thank you 38yrs for writing leeds, without the dash,
...my elder brother was at the leeds v coventry semi, and was v badly shaken by the crushing that day on the same section of terracing : the pure hell those liverpool fans went through when the crushing at their game became even worse, leading to the 96 fatalities doesn't bare thinking about.
The systematic cover up of the actual events and passing the blame on to and demonising the fans, which is now finally exposed, might finally cause more sheeple to wake up: many people(sheeple) point blank refuse to believe that people in authority would ever do such a thing...."How can you say that!!!!that just doesn't happen!!!", they respond, well, i'm sorry, but we live in a very very corrupt world. From bent coppers, all the way up to lying politicians and at the summit, the sociopathic billionaire bankster fraudster/financiers of Wall Street / City of London etc, that never get brought to book in any meaningful way. I could go on, but I won't.
lufc4eva..
the fa and associated authorities ignored the warnings from the police re hillsborough..
the police are then put into an untenable position for the liverpool game.. it all goes wrong...
the police now have extra powers regarding health and safety etc..the fa and the government had all the say so at the time of the disaster..
being forced into a corner didnt help with the aftermath.. powers above realised the sh- t would drop on them and a planned "defence" was concocted.
we still see cameron and others trying to deflect the blame squarely and singularly onto the police.. whilst toadying to the people of liverpool..
they dont want apologies, they want whoever got it wrong to be tested to see if they knowingly and criminally got it wrong on the day and subsequently if they knowingly and criminally assisted in falsifying evidence after the fact..
and more importantly who authorised and helped hide this course of action for 23 years???
and that does not just include police officers..the police acting alone could never have covered this up for so long, its just not possible..
most police forces now spend a great deal of their time inspecting their own ar-s -holes to within an inch of its life..
careers are made on "informing on colleagues" , being insulted by "throwaway comments" from colleagues and being "seen" and "heard" to be correct on all matters of race/se x etc etc..they inform on each other on very minor matters on a daily basis, I still believe some major problems go unreported simply because of the rank(s) that might be implicated..Its always going to be the small fry that get shafted in the vain attempt of senior staff making "examples" of them..
good thing???
probably not...somewhere in the sensible middle might have been better..

personally I find it offensive that you turn this into a Political debate.
Whatever anyone thinks about the politics at the time, this is not the place to have that debate.
