number eight, i am exactly the same with Vertonghen. I keep telling everyone how class he is and hopefully people will start to see it now.

Number eight, see AVB'S reaction when we scored our 2nd and 3rd goals? .....He loves it, happy for him though

Agree Gylfi v poor.

Bale was again poor today

Dembele nowhere in the 2nd half

BUT yippee we won at last!!! And there were psi tubes in other areas of the pitch.

Yeah Don it was nice to see him fist pump, celebrate and smile actually!!

I think Sigurdsson looks like he will be a good player, he just needs a bit of time to adjust boys. Saw glimpses of him with that excellent ball for the Defoe goal though.

1 team in NL, he's a passionate guy mate and i think people need to get off his bloody back and give him a chance.

Unfortunately people won't get off his back unless he wins the league with us I reckon.

Good win today, but our conversion rate is criminal, we should be scoring more than 1 in 6, and WTF cannot we keep a clean sheet, I know it did not matter today, but yet another goal conceeded in the 90th minute.

All in all though a good day. Perhaps the press will now leave AVB alone, but I doubt

Number eight, atleast this time AVB'S celebrations were worth it,against Newcastle we let in a goal 3 minutes later

Sandy, yeh it's very annoying mate but we have to be happy, 3-1 away from hom

Thought Siggy did very well today in patches, must have been watching a different game from some of the rest of you.

Anyway, good article Don. I think we could do well if AVB gets a proper chance

Vert was quality today, looks like hes going to be top drawer.

Siggy was a bit poor today but he looked good in pre season, and was working well with Bale. Looked like he was trying too many tekkers today.

Normal business is resumed

lots of postives today guys

bar 10 mins we absolutely bossed it and should have been a much bigger scoreline....very frustrating to concede late like everyone else is saying..we need to shake that

i agree with Don about sigurdson (spelling!?) he is a class player... he just faded in this game like Dembele...ran their guts out....Vertoghen was class.won everything near him and uses the ball

Bale was the only dissapointment...poor start to the season

Kimchi Sigurdsson did look good in patches but tried to much at times and lost the ball a lot, still his pass for lennon was quality and created the move for the 1st goal

I remember how you guys got pi$$ed off when some gooners said Siggurdson was average and wouldn't even start for you (when vdv was still a spurs player).

Good result and some really promising performances.

I can't help wondering if this new style is one of the reasons Bale is quiet. He's at his best counter-attacking when he can really use his speed. Playing a high line doesn't give him the same opportunities to go at players in the same way...still, he's talented enough to adjust and may well become a better all round player as a result.

9 out of 20 shots on target is poor though.

posted on 16/9/12

True, but 3 goals from 9 on target sounds a lot better

Sense that AVB may be a statto.
He may do a fair bit of "moneyball" on all this stuff (someone will be getting shooting detention soon ) .

This was a "must win" match for AVB. And his relief at goals 2 & 3 clearly showed. I still think his job is not secure.

Team as a whole played well against a weak side. We should have scored more goals. First half we had over 60% possession and only one goal.
But I do not blame Defoe, he played like Defoe is supposed to play.... shoot on sight.

I do not agree with the criticism of Bale. He played his heart out as the midfield ball carrier. And scored no. 2. Wot more do you want? And he limped off at the end. Might have played injured, dunno.

Think Sandro gives the team a very solid feel, although some think Scotty Parker is a better choice. Not sure on that one.

"I still think his job is not secure."

Hope he thinks so too (if it raises his game) .

I thought the Sandro/Dembele combination was excellent, and given the circumstances of it being an away fixture and recent form there's probably more to come going forward from them.

I'd like to have seen more of Dempsey and Townsend as they were both lively, but certainly can't complain about the team performance

RDBD ...
Its his man to man management that got him into trouble at Chelsea.

Agree Dempsey should have had more field time.
