When it's the fans funding it through high ticket prices and TV subscriptions then it's hard to justify anyone earning even £1M a year, afterall it's their job, and a very good one at that.
But if people are willing to pay for tickets and subscriptions then the market sets the price, whether that works or not is still to be seen (cue list of financially failed or failing clubs).
whatever the club can afford
Low basic wage and only get a decent wedge when winning games.I'm sure that some would try harder to get in the team and put the effort in to win if they relied on it to double or treble their wages
Yh as 8bit says whatever clubs can afford to pay them. These footbalers are unique, not many have as much talent or luck to be playing at the top level. Plus so much demand for football, it makes sense to pay high.
Performance related - Win - £5k, Lose - Nothing, Draw - £1k
Even these high earners are on a pittance compared to the big earners in the major American sports, Baseball, Basketball, American football.

ronaldo and messi should be payed £100k a week. Players like carrick scholes £50k a week. Players like nani and valencia £75k a week.
If you actually look at it perspectively £25k more a week is a lot of money, more then high paying jobs for most people get more then a year let a lone a week. This will help clubs reduce debt and players heads won't be turned. More royalty to clubs etc will be shown.
Players like wellbeck really should be getting max £25k a week. Bottom end clubs that play for wigan southampton should pay max £10k a week.
This is just general idea butI remember when I heard players get paid £120k a week nearly a decade ago and thought is thatfor real.
Also I am all for basic £1k a week salary and lets say £10k a week for playing or £5k a week for making the subs bench etc if you are on £11k a week.
