Stop moaning! We should be wary of signing players willy-nilly. Anyway, the season doesn't start for another 3 weeks.
You make a solid argument. We are clearly weaker now as a squad than at the end of last season. We have lost Mellor, Batth, Spurr, Heff, Teale, Miller & Potter while we have gained Prutton, Semedo & Bennett.
The new players add quality but we are light on creativity, goals and depth. If we add Mellor, O'Grady plus a decent winger then we should be well equipped to challenge for promotion.
Jones made a huge difference last season.
Having a proper midfielder who can tackle and a proper left back/left sided player will help a great deal.
We do look a little workmanlike but that's still better than last year.
Can't see the current squad going up as yes, we do look short of attacking threat. But we only need one, preferably two new signings.

I'm not so sure those 3 will be enough but it certainly will make things look a lot healthier, especially if one of them is Gary Roberts from Huddersfield.
I reckon Megson is counting on fitness, organisation, discipline, being 'tough to beat' etc to make us promotion contenders. All of which is fine by me, just not sure it's going to work..

Agreed re: left-back and central midfield. Think we need more than 1 or 2 signings though; 2 strikers and 2 attacking midfielders, I'd say, as Morrison and Jermaine Johnson are rather flaky.
I don't see an issue to be honest Morrison given a decent supply will score goals. So long as the back 4 and midfield operate as a unit we woon't leak many and given some decent pace which we have we will score regularly providing we learn to keep hold of the ball.
Oh look, it's the re-occuring debate that seems to happen every Tuesday!

Find one name their that didnt come up for abuse at some stage last season (excepting Batth of course)
It wouldnt be Wednesday if it were easy would it?
Bettr than them getting injured playing teams of donkeys though aint it
Tez4Life, i read that you support a team that no one cares about and is barely spoken of outside of your village.
How do you feel about that?
When it comes to new players i recon we have few offers in on players but the players are holding off due to few championship team showing interest which anyone with any sense would do. Football is just another job to these people you go where the better job & money is.
The whole point is that at the moment wewill finish just above ahalfway but the three right signings could take us into the top six.

I agree and that's my problem. Maybe I've got unrealistic expectations but I would've thought we should be looking at automatic promotion this season? The play-offs are no good and should be a consolation prize at best.
that's a bit pessimistic i recon. Three key signings and top six would be bear minimum. I'd expect to challenge for top two if we get 3 good players in, especially if one is a goal scorer and one has lots of pace.
Why the panic buttons? Aren't you forgetting we also managed to re-sign JoC?
All joking aside, I think the new recruits will be brought in within the next week or so Meggo has stated his case and MM will open the purse strings. Remembering Irvine's willy nilly spending (albeit on wages), once bitten, twice shy!!
trueblue,
You're right of course that we need to bring in the right players, not just panick and spend a fortune cos there's not long to go. However, the point is well made by the OP. No more signings and we're mid-table, two/three good ones and we can look good for a solid play-off spot, maybe challengin for the top two, four good ones and we've a chance of automatic. Not panicking yet, but will be happier when pen has been put to paper.
trueblue
I'm not saying we should spend 'willy nilly' (whatever that means).
Also, of Irvine's 2011 transfer window signings, three are still at the slub and the other wasn't given a chance..
As Rich Owl says, we need 4 good signings to challenge for automatic and if the objective is anything less than that I'd be ratehr disappointed - it's only the 3rd division..
This division is wide, wide open. Not like last year where Soton & Hudds looked good before a ball was kicked. Brighton came from no-where and it wasn't until March that people stopped 'expecting them to drop off'.
On paper we actually have one of the stronger squads but that counts for nothing.
Anyone could up this year. Well anyone other than the Blades cos McCabe will sell any players as soon as they start playing well!
Hey proffessor! You and the rest of this league will do a lot of talking about us this season. And you know it!
