I thought Defoe played very well last night but I read some comments slating him. I thought the team was great last night but I see some comments saying we have no creativitiy?
For me that was a very good performance. I think BAE will get back in but Naughton last night was very good and for me Younes is our top defender. Ade then if hes on his game is a better player than Jermain but Parker is a tough one. I can see him having problems getting back in there.

Nice problem to have.......BAE can be a bit iffy sometimes so yes Naughts is a great "find"
If Kaboul's out for much longer, the Caulker/Vertonghen partnership could have time to develop and he could find it harder than he thinks to get back in to the side

I thought the football played last night was excellent. They were lucky to get away with a draw. The passing at times was fantastic.
Got to say I'm loving the way Dembele just skips past a player to make room for himself wherever he is on the pitch. If we can capitalise on this we will be amazing for us.
"I think we played a too strong team."
Tis a one off, Chicken. The quality of opponent demanded it.
Until the rematch +/- other group results, I expect more Arry-esque lineups in the Europa (but hopefully with a view to give the 2nds - and not the kids - 90 mins of decent game time) .
HI B.S
It wont be long until Dembele will be the first name on the team sheet....Close to being the Prems best window signing

I thought Vert looked okay but i thought Caulker was very poor. Very static, didnt seem to know where he should be standing half the time, lost his man on nearly every attack & lost simple control of the ball. Obviously he had a goal harshly chalked off, but he looks second rate to me.
RBDB
Maybe but AVB really wants to win this after winning it 18 months ago , he wants a double

Agree about Dembele though. I said it when we signed him & he confirmed it again last night. He is what i would call a Spurs player. Very exciting to watch, neat trickery & great skill. Very strong too. And whilst even Strachan backtracked on it a little bit, and i dont want to go too far either, but he does have some traits of Zidane + Yaya Toure.
Most players need space to take a player on, Dembele does it when he is really close. Really excited by him. And yes, he is certainly one of the first names on the team sheet. He & Sandro really compliment eachother.

squid :
If AVB wants to, fair enough.
Even if he don't, I'm hoping as many of the 2nds play in the Europa/League Cup ties as possible. They on paper total half of the PL games played to an equivalent period, so are a perfect means of giving as much of the squad as possible some competitive 90 min games.
The only one of the players out of the ones the OP mentioned that would have improved the side last night is Adebayor. The CBs couldn't be faulted and Parker would bring nothing that Sandro didn't do, and wouldn't bring things that Sandro did.
The one we missed last night was Huddlestone- the one CM we have who can spray a ball out to our (quiet so far tgis season) flying wingers.
Everyone is getting a little carried away by the performance when it was a lot tighter game than it should be. We were at home, with a strong side - look at our home form in the CL season, we were sensational. Lazio are a decent side, nothing more. Just saying

I dont think we ever moaned about fielding too strong a side
=================
And i wasn't saying we moaned about playing a strong side, people were moaning that we were burning players out by playing them each week. We all know that Lennon's hammy's need protecting a bit, so i'm surprised we're risking him playing 3 games in 1 week.

the league cup is one thing and I expect a lot more exoerimentation ....As I said the Europa is his baby
Not sure if I was watching the same game but I thought Caulker was excellent.
Have to agree about the Dembele comparison with Zidane - the way he moves the ball in tight areas is very reminiscent of Zizou. If he ends up he the player we have a star there.
One of Dempsey or Defoe should have made way last night, Dembele pushed on and Hudd in with Sandro
and for 2...possibly 3 poor decisions HRH we wlda won comfortably...on scoreline at least....
at that level your gonna get opened up at times....
I wasn't particularly impressed by Naughton, thought he was slow at moving the ball and turned into trouble on a couple of occasions which against better oppo we could have been punished for! He done ok, just dont think he's done anything for benny to be worried about!

People forget that Lazio won every game they've played so far this season (5 games) and we played them off the park..........I saw the two back to back games that itv4 showed and watching the Pool match took me back to my school days and the lunch break game with a tennis ball
