You can't say 5 players for each position defines world class. Take Spanish midfielders for example, IMO 90% of them are world class, and there's a good 8 midfielders there. That's not even taking in the fact of midfielders of other nations.
I think a world class player is a player who has mastered his position or skill(s) that can win a match for his team any moment, and also has the ability to outshine the rest of the players on the pitch on a consistent basis.
it's all subjective about who is world class.
when people say 5 for each position or whoever would get in a world XI that's just stupid imo though.
you can't limit it like that, because in the current generation there's loads of world class midfielders and not many world class full backs for example.
it's all subjective at the end of the day and just need to use a bit of common sense.
So... Mertesacker isn't world class then?

im not saying thats the method that is the winner, i disagree with it also, but at the same time you could pick 5 players for every position who are better than the rest, making them the best at what they do.
He's a good defender but has no pace so he isn't world class.
Does this make D'Jeezus a world class tool for believing he's a world class defender?
Mertersacker is a solid reader of the game, one of the best around. He doesn't use aggression, he's a very elegant defender. He's not world class, but he's a level below atm. He doesn't even require pace the way he plays his game.
Yeah I think 5 is a decent guideline but it needs to be flexible, for some positions there might be less or more. For me it's players who are a class apart from the rest but then people have different opinions on players so that's where the disagreements come in.

Simple rule....... if they play for Barca or Madrid they are World glass.
No player in the EPL is world glass, Robin VP is possible the closest !
RVP is pure class, I'd rate him higher than all ofReal's forwards, apart from CR7 obviously.
Apologies Doovde up one...
Cazorla shouldn't be named with the likes of Rooney, RVP, Silva... Not near their standard, yet.
No doubt RVP is world class. Rooney on his day is world class but I think he's overrated. Cazorla is easily on the same level as Silva.
After 6-7 games you think Cazorla has already achieved what Silva has? Don't think so somehow...
What do you mean by 'achieved'?
has Cazorla only played 6 or 7 games in his career? woahh
Hmmmm....... How about the trophies he's win, the goals he's scored, and the large number of assists for starters...
Cazorla has started well, but its waaay to early to be comparing him with established PL players. I'd say Hazard is ahead, but he's not world class yet .
Let's judge a player by the number of trophies he's won after seven league games with his club. You idiot. If you've watched him it's clear to see that his quality is amongst the best in the PL. His touch is amazing and he's comfortable on the ball, he has great vision and passing, he is the most two-footed player that I've seen and he's got a good shot, as you can see by his goal yesterday.
Why is it too early? He's been playing pro football for nearly 10 years and has 50 caps for Spain. Just because you hadn't heard of him a few months ago doesn't mean he's unproven
