Where as Sandy you are just mixed up.

Sandy I don't need evidence Brown, sounds a bit like the FA.

Tottenham spent millions, in the 80's and still couldn't buy the league, adjust for inflation and the values would be simillar.

Old age is not being kind to you Sandy, as your memories fade you tend to remember the past more fondly than you should.

I think a lot of you posters are getting buying trophies mixed up with earning trophies, as some kind of guide to being a big club. ie Spend a billion = guarantee trophies, which would mean any club, and I mean any club could achieve what Chelsea won with the same resources. Nothing for all the ch...av.s to be shouting from the rooftops about

As is the norm Sandy when you start getting battered you go off on a tangent

Adjust for inflation?

How much do you think we spent in the 80's then?

Chelsea have spent near enough £1billion since Abramovich took over..........................even if we spent £50m (which we didn't even get anywhere near that figure) inflation would have to be at a ridiculous level for us to equate to Chelsea's spend!

posted on 9/10/12

JFDI......................just so you know our big spend in the 80's included £2m on Gascoigne, £1.7m on Paul Stewart & £1.1m on Gary Lineker.

Chelsea benefited from massive investment obviously, but to argue that means thier trophies are worthless is simply nonsense and sounds like nothing more or less than sour grapes.

Spurs have always in thier history been a relatively wealthy club, should the vast majority of league clubs (who are poorer) view all of Spurs past glories as meaningless?

"should the vast majority of league clubs (who are poorer) view all of Spurs past glories as meaningless?"

Nope. Spurs trailblazing firsts inspire.

OzzieAssaidi...........................It depends on the club. Big clubs like Liverpool believe 1st is first, everything else is failure, they are striving to end their title drought, which I'm sure they will soon.
Small clubs like Everton, Arsenal and Spurs idea of success is a top 4 finish. A-rse-wipe Wenger calls top 4 the be all and end all./

Genius, that was top dollar back then, sums that most clubs could only dream of.

So Spurs spending around about £10 million in the 80s is equvialent to Chelsea spending a billion in the 21st century. Good job your not running the country.

But still only even in todays market about a 20th of what Chelsea have spent, and a lot less than what Liverpool were spending to win all there trophies. Try to get your facts right first mate.

I earn 14 timed now what i was earning then and with football inflation being that much more prolific 20 times is not so hard to believe. The point is you out spent most and still couldnt win the league.
