Prescott was a seaman to trade and was talking about regional development in the 80's - a bruiser of a politician and never a champagne socialist - term was not even invented when he went into politics.
He may have been a champagne socialist but I could see the human in him. when he punched that guy rather than avoiding the points
Sorry I loved that, reacted like a working man would if he got assaulted with an egg.
Tony Benn - his name always appears in these debates, unfortunately my knowledge is no more than family or friends have told me off him. Someone I need to research for myself.

the rarified atmosphere of Westminster does strange things to folks - Dennis Skinner - The Beast of Bolsover has remained true to his roots - and Tony Benn, once a member of the aristocracy is always worth a read/listen

Tony Benn and Peter Heathfield of the NUM - who BTW was a much clearer thinker than Scargill could aspire to be - Mick McGahey "when you stop running they will stop chasing you" - a paraphrase - but true
Any how guys n ghirl appreciate your thoughts but to say I support Thatcher to make me feel more of a bluenose is the daftest thing Ive heard! As for countering questions I call it deflection and avoidance! However you have engaged in one of the more interesting debates on here and for that I thank you all! <applaud>
I enjoy listening to the older Labourites Benn/Foot when you can find them online or read of them! The difference in the parties is now nominal!
Regarding my age, another crazy excuse I recall Roy Jenkins etc departing to form SDP back in the day infact his local election office was in Hyndland St just down from Cottiers! So yes I did have a very early interest in politics I recall many in my school wearing the rainbow jumpers of the day and cnd etc etc!!!
Was playing football at hyndland today and popped into cottiers for a refreshment super, used to be a lot busier in there don't know What's happened to it
Just back from Dimaggios in the lane
