The reality is 9 championship clubs offer cheaper season tickets than Town's £339 cheapest offer, so the £10 Promo has created a headline but distorts the arguement.
Malcolm Clarke, chair of the Football fans Association says clubs are pricing many fans out of attending matches. Clubs say they are offering a better match day experience.....
Villa and Newcastle both also offer cheaper season tickets than Town do.
Does this mean we all are eligible to refunds on season tickets....
£17 in per game with free pie and tea sounds a good deal to me......
It's all a load of bolacks tho, cos they have Sheffield utd down as cheapest in league one, and we all know that it was the dearest place to go last season... Oh apart from wembley that is...
I don't know where the £339 cheapest ST at Town came from..Town offer a adult seat In the FM lower for £265 ..and you don't have to have a child with you to go in the Family section.
The thing is though, with each game being priced into one of 5 categories, which haven't been announced yet, how can you work out the match day cost over a season. According to my own calculations and estimates the average match cost for an adult in the Kilner is £24 whereas a SC bought thru' terms averages £21.
I thought you might have picked up on this Jacko
A season card bought for the Kilner Bank at the early bird prices averages out at just £14.74/game...bargain.
Yes Town have thrown the £10 ticket price in to make it look more attractive than it really is,but to be fair 1 adult can sit in the Kilner Bank for as little as £21 this season which is still cheaper than a good 10 or so other clubs in this division.
By the way i've been to every game so far this season and this is what it's cost me in terms of tickets in the away end
PNE £10 (Cup game)
Cardiff £21
Ipswich £31
Sheff Wed £28
Blackpool £25
Birmingham £23
and the following already bought
Peterboro £18(standing)
Millwall £26
Averages out at £22.75/game inc cup
Averages out at £24.58/game League only.
That to me suggests Town are near enough on the mark when it comes to Championship footy
Too right Wakey...
I wouldn't disagree with your overall assessment. Town charge away fans the same as the Kilner Bank adult gate price, so Wolves fans will be paying £27 to get in. Away seniors and students get in for £1 cheaper than the home equivalent...
I would like Town to show a bit more initiative though with match tickets. After the early bird offer, then the post Wembley offer the only other initiative was the buy 5 tickets for £x offer, but that only benefits Adults paying full price. The 'friend for £10' is a good idea, but maybe more packages or bundles of match tickets to cater for seniors, students, Under 18's etc would bring more fans in.
I'm not arguing that Town are any more expensive than any other club in the Championship, I just think they need a bit of initiative to fill some of those 9,000 empty seats.
Is Millwall pay on day wakey??
Jacko if u give the seats away i dont think we wud sell out mate
I think it will be Inter, we couldn't sell out for a play off game so i doubt this will sell out
Too true Tez(Congrats by the way)
Jacko- i agree that the club can do more to get bums on seats and they should do more by offering mini packages that are a saving on matchday prices but don't upset the season card holders.
I'd be interested to know just how many supporters have taken up the 'Our Town' membership scheme this season as well
Not many Championship teams fill their stadiums every week. Our 'home' capacity is 20,500 and our 1st five home games have had a home 'gate' which was 64%, 61%, 62%, 68% and 60% of that capacity, (average 63%).
That means we have space (on average) for another 7,600 home fans.
At the moment, assuming we have sold almost 10,000 season tickets (as per Town website), and 1,900 of those are not attending, then with an average home 'gate' of 12,900 that means we have 4,800 Town fans paying on the gate each match..
So far this has fluctuated between 4,372 and 5,496 while attending ST holders is 7,669 to 8,402.
The only way to fill the empty spaces at the JSS is to a) get more ST to attend, and b) make the games more affordable for pay on the gate fans. For the game against Watford an extra 1,100 fans paid at the gate compared to the Derby Co game, so interest is there.
There is a large pool of occasional fans to be tapped into, and ideally we would like fill some of the 7,600 seats with them.
One way to do this (apart from being top of the league every week) is to price it at affordable levels.
It will be interesting to see the attendance figures for the Wolves game although the £10 offer is not open to the general public, just those who know a ST holder, so it won't be a true test.
Keeping ST holders happy is an obvious concern in discounting the occasional fan, so selling bundles of 3 or 5 tickets at a discount should be acceptable even though the unscrupulous would probably buy enough of these to see them through the season ,
I wonder how ST holders would balance the possibility of more fans in the stadium (with improved atmosphere) against the fact it devalues the discount they got for buying a ST ?
jacko..
as long as the discounts through the season dont outweigh the st discount at the start, i have no complaints..
also offering st holders discounted extra tickets for the bigger games, a la wolves, is a winner for me..
I'm a season card holder myself and because i've splashed the cash out at the before the start of the season i think that should entitle me to the best discount...i think that's only fair.
My ticket works out at £17.35 and i would have no problem Town offering bundles of 3/4/5 matches at say the equivalent of £21 a game. The problem then lies with those who bought a SC late and paid a further £100 on top of my SC which works out at £21.70 a game
Town have made a rod for there own back with this Cat system they have in place which means it's virtually impossible to offer a 3/4/5 match bundle without upsetting the people who splashed out on a season ticket after the early bird offers had finished
Good points Wakey., but maybe Town could offer bundles for each category. So 3 A games at 10% discount (£26 each) etc..then fans can choose which type of games they want that fit their pocket.
This shouldn't upset ST holders as they currently enjoy a discount averaging 23% from gate prices in the Kilner stand.
This offer could be made for each stand and for adults and concessions, in bundles of 3 or 5 tickets.
Town would have to give more info on what category future games would be, although you could have a guess I suppose.
Get onto wobble chops and Jarvis on twitter and see what they say
jacko..the categories might well change depending on how well/badly certain teams are doing.. its a difficult thing to predict..
The season ticket prices if you didnt renew in time for the early bird price are too dear for your average joe,, We have had a good start, A great start even, Yet we are struggling to pull the crowds in, The economic climate, Folk out of work, Wage cuts,, It seems Town have finally realised this,,, It is the first season i have not renewed as i missed the early bird offer and there was no way i was commiting myself to watch every game if we had stayed in the gloom n doom of the third tier,,, However, When i had a season ticket i did not mind one iota if somebody came to a game and had paid less than i had, I had a seat, My seat.
Just to add, While at work i speak daily to a hell of a lot of old boys about football,,, And i will add that i reckon i have easily spoken to over hundred little old biddies this year who used to go to Town games and would love to go again but simply do not have a spare tenner out of their pittance of a pension,,, Indeed only yesterday i was having a brew with a lad who originally hailed from Boro, He told me how they used to go stand on the "bob" end, Anyone could afford a bob to go to the game, So they did, He said that a bob would probably be about £3 now ! It should be free entry to the over 65s anywhere in the ground.
Behave Brycey....free entry for over 65's and who would cover that cost, those over the age of 18 and under 65?
To be fair to Town you don't have to be over 65 to qualify for OAP rates once you turn 60 they get that rate anyway
And it aint a cheap enough rate Wakey, Lots of folk have been priced out of going, It cannot be denied that footy is too dear.
Wakey, what 'cost' would you be covering if an extra 3,000 or so came to the matches ?
Season Tickets.
Season 'cards'..
Catagories...'WTF'
discounts...
age brackets ()....
I've voiced how ridiculous match admissions are for as long as I can remember.
38 has explained the business mindset to us time after time...being a regular number attending..like a drug..hit 'em hard in the pocket. or something like that.
Brycey. How many times does he have to say it. many who want to attend CAN'T AFFORD .
Don't get sucked into the 'spin'
step back & think.
The players get paid too much. We pay for their privilege out of our pocket.
We all play hell fore about England players being prima donas...& not being worth 'their brass'...but seem unable to criticize our own club for being basically the same.
€21 or €24...or even €15. For many. It's just too much . end of.
Darn, i wanto to go watch the boxing day test match in Melbourne every 4 years but i can't afford it... does that mean the Flight companies should bring the price down for me
