"who are we to complain about our start to the season?"
We're United supporters. It's what we do.
Barca have Messi, Xavi and Iniesta though. When it matters those players will destroy teams.
I guess we can't be too upset with the season so far. I like that Ferguson is trying new formations/tactics however I still think we haven't played that well yet. I'm still frustrated Kagawa isn't really being utilized to his full potential yet but I guess it's still early. I had read when signing Kagawa Ferguson had given him reassurances he would be played through the middle which he was at the very beginning but slowly seems to be pushed to the side.
I am enjoying Evans' threat from corners this season, looks like he could get a few goals.
We have the players to play like barca, and no this isnt the same as saying be better or as good as
The problem is we have been at the top for 20 years in the league. To try something new we would need to be where LFC are now. Basically to drastically change when at the top is very difficult
Even barca are looking to buy players to keep the winning formula intact rather than play differently, once th elikes of messi are not around then we will see how successful they are.

They may not produce another Messi but La Masia is doing a pretty good job of producing world class players. I see no reason why this will change.
Valdez
Montoya Pique Puyol Alba
Xavi Busquets Iniesta
Pedro Messi Fabregas
That starting XI is made entirely of La Masia, frightening. They have a philosophy that is working at every level of their club, they have allowed La Masia to grow naturally and given it time and they are reaping the rewards. It may sound as though I'm licking their a$$ but what Barca doing is very admirable and it would be great if other teams cared as much about developing their youth.

They are probably too busy being wummed by 14 year old Seville fans who still think they are in with a chance of the title.

That team is good enough to win the Champions League, i've never seen a team of home grown players that good.

Replace Seville with Arsenal and we suffer the same. More things in common
manutd1982 - i see what you are saying but its happened before and eventually changed, ajax??
also what if they hang onto messi et al well into their late 30's?
of course you can get a ronaldo to replace a beckham, it happens, but then you can also get problems in midfield trying to replace keane and scholes

Of course other teams have built great sides from their youth, just look at Busby's United. The major difference between the great Ajax teams of the 70's and 90's is that the Dutch league has never been and will never be one of the top leagues so sadly their best players will want to leave to join bigger clubs, play in better leagues and earn more money. Ironically many of Ajax's best players left for Barca.
Barca on the other hand play in arguably the best league in the world and along with Real are the most desirable teams that players want to play for.
I'm not saying Barca will be the top team forever, things go in cycles and Barca will no doubt have their bad patches but right now they have so much right in place. Their stadium, the youth set up, the philosophy, their current first team.
Also if they hang onto Messi till he's in his late 30s he'll still be a great player, but they will also have incredibly talented youth players coming through too.
Bayern and Dortmund are other teams who I admire their use of their youth set up, both are producing great players as well as most of Germany, it's quite sad really when you compare the talent coming from Germany with England.
