I think a very fair expectation for DF would be Gartside's initial 2 wins from 3 from here on in. Gartside expected that from Coyle and sacked him for a better man, so 2 from 3 it is from me I reckon.
It would be too much to expect him to gather in Coyle's shortfall on the original target.
So we have 15 and Gartside's target from now would bring in 72 more points. This would give us 87 points.
The way the top teams are going at it, I don't think that would be enough, so looking like the play offs comfortably and then into the random mixer for the final Prem place.
Bricks - you need to check your maths
68 points for 2 points per game = 83 points.
Funnily enough, the average points needed over the last 16 years
My bad.
I don't think 83 would be enough this year somehow as quite a few teams that will be there abouts are on the 2 from 3 already.
yep they are, but they haven't played each other yet!!!
And more importantly, WE haven't played them yet. The games against top 6 will be the ones!!
Don't forget the top teams will need to maintain their form for the rest of the season. From years of watching football I would say it's easier said than done.
I wouldn't write off our chances of at least getting into the play offs and it's not inconceivable that we could achieve automatic promotion. There are plenty of games left to play and most teams go through a bad patch during the course of a season.
somehow i can't see ngog and sordell firing us to promotion like the way walker/mcginlay, blake/mcginlay did in the past.i think one most likely ngog will be moved on in jan to raise funds for a real goalscoring striker.

Think about that SWIE.
We have yet to attain that form, let alone maintain it, so they have a definite advantage.
2 from 3 for us is a demanding target so to get a possible 10 on top of that is a huge ask.
I'm of the opinion that a lot of managers that were mentioned could have got us promoted (either automatically or play offs) given the players we've got.
So, for me, play offs minimum - anything else would be a failure. Promotion would obviously be classed as a success. Then, his real test of keeping us in the PL would start, and I'm not convinced he'll be able to do that.
Obviously, that's just my opinion and we'll have to wait and see what happens, but I do think he'll get a fair crack of the whip from most of the fans and that's only fair.
Bricks, I'm not saying we will definitely get promoted but we've seen it time and again that teams start of flying and around Christmas, they fade away.
Your the stats man. Have a look back over the last ten years of the Championship/first division. I'd be very suprised if that wasn't the case.
One thing that NEVER changes is the fans' ability to embrace then reject players and managers according to results.
As far as I can remember - and I go back a long way - BSA and Rioch were the only managers to leave of their own volition, the rest were moved along when bad results and league position left them exposed to fans anger and disappointment. So the one thing almost guaranteed is that Doggie will be getting a hard time from us at some time in the future
However, he is, as they say, young and upcoming - and maybe, just maybe, he can work some magic for The Whites.
I'll do my usual fence sitting, and keep a watching brief, hoping all the while that he really IS the new Messiah!
I still think we'll require something of "Reading" proportions to get automatic promotion. A 10 point gap is huge when it's to winning teams.
So Freedman's "a better man" than Coyle, is he?
Funny that, because the same contributor was refering to him (DF) as "another Scottish no-mark" a couple of days ago.....
Nothing like being consistent and keeping your story straight....
i hope feedman is the man to take us foreward,no mention of HIS backroom staff, I would be very happy if he could work with our lads, lets wait and see.
Bricks, we will just have to wait and see.
At the very least we have to hope that we can do it. If we get into a play off place, after our poor start, I would be happy.
What I meant to add, is that we are only 5 points off a play off position at the moment. I think you will agree that we could quite possibly make up that ground.
The term "better man" was used due to the fact that Gartside sacked Coyle and installed Freedman and even Gartside isn't stupid enough to install a manager he considers a worse man. Get that or not?
The term "no-mark" is exactly what he is. ie, not having achieved anything. Their are no honours listed in his name as with Coyle who has an honour against his name of "Promotion to P'ship". Get that one or not?

Freedman came in to his last job at Palace with the club seemingly doomed to relegation. He saved them and the season after got them to a semi final (league cup). In losing said semi final the team didn't go on a massive downward spiral and instead sit in the higher reaches of their league.
So he may not have won the champion's league 4 times or won bestist manager ever but he's done the best he can with the club he was at and I hope he continues this upward trajectory with us.
