Brummie, the Millwall game was the return leg of that nightmare day in New Cross, that you and I both went to in 1976. It wouldn't have made any difference to our safety whether the Cold Blow Lane end that day was seats or standing
That was my worst day ever at a football match 69, I started off in the cold blow lane, had to get out onto the pitch, got in the opposite end and almost got creamed in there.
Came out to carnage, got back to New Cross Gate and then Euston - found out the lads I came with were back there by ten to four!
On top of that we lost 3-0
It came on top that day like never before. I was with the mob that Harkins led into the CBL. I never actually got lumped but the people in front of me were getting mullered. It was by far the most scary day I have ever had at Football and by half-time I was out of the ground and on my way home.
It didn't stop me going back again for a pre-season friendly in 1980
Easily my scariest day as well 69 - not ashamed to admit it - Nar-e-Saraj had FA on that place!
Do you remember the copper on the horse, trying to hold back the carnage?
Too busy hiding my head in the match program
Hickey recounts a story of some of his boys, who were also TA Paratroopers dealing with a nutter with a meathook in the Ilderton Road end. They went on to fight in South Africa and Rhodesia and apparently they said that outside at Millwall that day was the most scared they have ever been in a crowd.
Meathook - I saw someone on the floor after the game with one in their shoulder outside that end - wonder if it was the same one! fecking orrible!!
I don't know Brum, as I said I didn't make the end of the game
Anyway - so there's about three of us prefer standing
Hard to know that two are talking about a football match, sounds more like the latest SAW movie
Biggish, trust me SAW movies are a lot more fun than that day was
Biggish it was like a bad day in the Upper Gereshk Valley - believe me!
