More stats - Sturridge last 180 minutes - 2 goals
Torres last 550 - none

Torres average is one shot on target a game

More stats - Sturridge passes in last 80 games - 2
Torres passes in last game - 5

Want to go down that route:

"Torres has the second lowest passing success on the team at 72%, sure his percentage being lower is due to him playing up front. I think it would be more appropriate to compare his Passing success to other strikers. So Blondie Passing success % is lower then all of Manchester strikers, so by all Manchester strikers I mean Dzeko, Balotteli, Aguero,Tevez, RVP, Rooney, Welback, Chicharito. Btw Torres is also the most dispossessed striker in the league; also among strikers he is guilty of having one of the highest turnovers per game.

Sturridge against United completed 50/56 passes with passing success rate of 89%, dispossessed once, and responsible for 2 mere turnovers. That is better then any game Torres had been involved in this season."

Still better than Sturridge

Weird how our best form came last season when Sturridge was out the team

Questionable logic. At least stats don't lie

This is the most unsurprising stat ever.

Lampard has better stats than Xavi and Iniesta so on your logic Lampard > Xavi Lampard > Iniesta

Never said that. I just posted better stats. They're just that - better stats. Like the Lukaku article, which you don't seem as bothered about

Stats don't lie, but inferences made from stats can be wrong. That said, if anything, Torres' poor statistical output is pretty much inline with how everyone perceives his play right now.

Over 120 minutes?

The most interesting thing:

Lukaku - Torres
min/touch 2.29 - 2.42
min/shot 18.19 - 49.88
min/shot on target 34.73 - 92.08

In other words, Torres gets the ball about as much as Lukaku does, but takes about 2.7 times longer to take a shot, and takes about 2.6 times longer to get a shot on goal.

This may be because Torres spends a lot of time outside the box, but he could also just be a bit shy about shooting.

The moral of the story is that we need 2 new strikers

This is not fair, you're forgetting the magnificent midfield that is supporting Lukaku upfront. These stats are flawed

Let's recall Lukaku in Jan. Offload Torres and bring in another striker e.g. Llorente, Remy...

How do stats lie? stats are innocent, its the people that intepret them that are guilty

Even if we accept a massive loss on the transfer fee, who would be willing or able to pay his massive wages?

Think Anzhi or PSG would take him? Maybe we can get Eto'o in return?

Athletico would take him if Roman wants to shell out for Falcao.

And Torres would probably lower his wage demands for them.
