Aye right enough about the derby scenario
"Out of curiosity mate do you know if hypothetically it would then be possible for the B team to be higher than the A team. Also if memory serves me right isnt it the case that players can alternate between the two sides during the same season"
It would be possible. Last year, Barca B finished second in the Spanish second division and they would have been promoted if Barca were in some way or another relegated.
Players can alternate as well.
Scrub the hypothetical question mate just clicked about auto relegation for the B side
Oh now I am confused again wouldnt Barca A being relegated negate barca b's promotion by your other post and they themselves would be relegated.
You know the really funny thing is us taking the time to discus this when it depends on the Scottish fitba authorities actully making a decision, never going to happen
"Oh now I am confused again wouldnt Barca A being relegated negate barca b's promotion by your other post and they themselves would be relegated."
Not really, as they'd be effectively swapping leagues, if it were to happen in the same season. I.e, if Barca B won their league this year, and Barca A were to be relegated this year, then Barca B would take Barca A's place.
Would be a really strange secenario wouldnt it.
On the the pros and cons of the situation bizzare scenarios aside it would be great to have such an option open to play youngsters and first team regulars out of form, returning from injury or just unable to get a game due to the form of the incumbant in their position
What about Having two games on at the perspective stadiums, but you could get into watch the next game for a fiver.
Either b team before hand or after, leave 45 minutes before games lets the pitch guys roll and tidy up?
It's a bit out there but why not?
Sounds a good idea to me 3rd
Celtic park and Ibrox could handle it with minimal effect on the playeing surface. Particularly as it would onlly be sporadic when the home fixtures of both sides fell on the same week .
Would be akin to prematch entertainment
In terms of where the colt sides might play what about MP and lennoxtown?
No additional cost, save for possibly erecting a temp stand then any income would only need to cover policing which you would imagine would be minimal as there is unlikely to be more than a thousand except maybe for a colt OF game
This is clever, and protects ALL 42 sides. Season 2014/15 would start with: 12 SPL teams knowing there is no relegation. 10 Div 1 teams knowing there are 4 promotion places & no relegation, 10 Div 2 teams knowing there are 4 promotion places & no relegation, & 10 Div 3 teams knowing they are ALL effectively being promoted up a tier.
If SFL agree this and they get 1 or 2 SPL teams, it will happen, as the rest would face being left behind.
As to the actual organising of Rangers & Celtic having 2 teams - pretty simple, have them playing at home alternating Saturday Sunday, so for example Rangers A home Sat, B away Sunday, Celtic the reverse & so on.
Make B games REALLY affordable - especially if the players alternate - a fiver a head would stick north of 30k into Ibrox & CP for the B games, with the A games sold out most of the time too.
You keep the fans in the stadium longer buying more fairly priced pies and beverages, just turn it more into a family day out.
Baseball games last for 5hours surely we could do it!
More of a family day out!
TRFC think I remember something about health and safety not allowing Lennextown or MP as spectator venues.
No further info on such just have a vague recollection of something along those lines
Dc - cant see the colt sides getting that many through the gate even if the tickets were free. You only have to look at the reserve matches and the attendances
And also give a wee bit off terracing back to the ultras(16 and over) But the main men have a place on the boards and must obide by strict rules set by the club!
THe Aussie rules teams here used to alway play colt matches prior to the first team games amd also as mentioned above the double headers in baseball as mentioned above. The time between the matches would allow the catering facilities at both ground to offer a broader range of options also and as we all know new revenue streams is an ongoing goal for every side
They wont actually just be reserve sides though TRFC they will be actuall 3rd division sides. Seems to be working out allright for that new mob at present
TRFC - why not? If it is basically the other "half" of a first team type squad with a mix of youngsters and more experienced players either coming back to fitness or not selected for first team for other reasons, then basically you have what we are watching every week with Rangers in Div 3.
Certainly having the games on at same day as A games may not work due to away fans changeover etc - for example Hibs coming for A game after colts play Alloa - seriously complicated in seat allocation etc.
Having them on alternate games would make far more use of CP & Ibrox. And if, for example, both OF A teams dropped out of League Cup for example, with B team taking place, that revitalises a comp and helps OF with trying to improve European co-eff.
This idea really does look at things in the right way.
And what is more, I can see the SFL teams liking it - a lot.
Away to watch the tennis and will leave you with this thought. If this is to come to pass McCoist better make sure he is out of the 3rd division to make room for the colts
Enjoy your night lads
Why dont the lower leagues play summer football and the SPL play the normal season yet cup competitions and friendlies keep the lower teams going if they want?
for example Hibs coming for A game after colts play Alloa
Never thought about the Hibs and Alloa Ultras having a square go
Not what I meant -clearly Hibs will bring more away fans than Alloa - hence issue with ticketing etc.
