It was a dive. Bale did his trademark hang a leg out thing to make it look like there was contact.

I really don't get how the ref can give a free kick to Dempsey, for the second goal, with barely any contact. But not a pen to Gerrard, when there was more contact by Gallas?

he was clipped. Even the commentators seemed to go quiet having said it was a dive, when a slow motion replay showed otherwise.

His back foot got clipped. HOWEVER.....whether or not it was enough to send him over, I'm not 100% sure either way. Running at the pace Bale does, it's difficult to judge, we all know he goes down easily but does seem to have toned down the diving side of his game.

Thought a yellow for diving was harsh at the time, and haven't yet seen anything to change my mind.

I watched the game on firstrow & Bale was definitely clipped & I must admit I was surprised that Dowd booked him.

Sorry you are wrong, the Gerrard incident was an excellent tackle by Dembele, if he had been out by a fraction then it could possibly have been a penalty but he judged it to perfection.

On what do you base your judgement that it was a dive?

On seeing the incident as it happened, and then being fortunate enough to see replays afterwards. Like I said Bale hung his leg out looking for contact.

I assume you were with the away fans last night so you must have been a fair way away when it happened, I haven't seen any replays so I can't argue with that one.

If there's minimal contact (I don't mean running at speed and being clipped) and a player goes over, then it's a dive in my eyes.

The key thing, as in all challenges, is intent! Dembele was going solely for the ball, which he got. Contact with Gerrard was just a fraction after Dembele got the ball, close but definitely not a penalty.

looked clumsy to me....

My stream froze during the incident and was laggy through the replay. It seemed to me like he was fouled but I can't be sure. I'm not one to judge on reputation, so unless I saw the incident again, I couldn't comment.

I'm not one to judge on reputation

What ever, everyone does. There's no way I'd leave my kids with Garry Glitter.Your only saying that because you think Suarez's history of diving shouldn't be taken into consideration when a ref makes a decision on a foul on him.

Reputation in football not a paedophile. You complete moron. They're completely different things. As I said I'm not one, ME, MYSELF, not you, ME, to judge on reputation so don't put words into my mouth you imbecile.

Reputation shouldn't come into it! Especially from a refs point of view. The ref should be impartial and judge each incident on what he sees at the time. The diving tag has been embellished by the media, so if refs are going on reputation, it means Suarez is being judges unfairly.

Like I said,if your didn't have divers like Suarez and Gerrard in your team you wouldn't take this stance. Your just trying to back up your argument that players reputation for cheating shouldn't come into consideration when judging a foul. Your a fooking idiot if you think a players history for cheating shouldn't be the first thing to come to a refs mind when contemplating a foul, and I for one think the player is only get his just deserves, because if they're won a match by cheating then they shouldn't moan when they lose a game when a decision goes against them.

If you live by the sword. Liverpool fans were forever screaming blue murder when Ronaldo dived and play acted, but now they have Ronaldo's equal (for cheating), they think the refs have it in for them.

Alas

Right so your ignoring the bit about the media embellishing Suarez's reputation.

Lets see if you can see this from an Evertonian perspective. Felliani has a habit of using his elbows when jumping for the ball. How would you feel if the ref blew for a foul against every time Felliani jumps to win a header. All because he has a media constructed reputation for using his elbows?

On another note, you cite Gerrard as one of our players that dive, when was the last time he dived? As for Suarez, Bale dives a lot more but still seems to win free kicks. Why aren't refs taking his reputation into consideration?
