It is "frankly not comprehendible" that professional football is continuing in Belarus amid the coronavirus pandemic, says world players' union Fifpro.

It is the only country in Europe where top-level football is being played.

Eight fixtures are scheduled in the Belarusian Premier League this weekend.

"We're appealing for it to be taken with the same cautionary measures that have been taken in the rest of football," Fifpro general secretary Jonas Baer-Hoffmann said.

"It is frankly not comprehendible how this could be going on.

"Why those standards there would be looking so much different from just across the border, I don't think anybody can explain. So everything in common sense tells you that they need to apply the same standards and we will be lobbying to that effect.

"Yes, there are players who are reaching out who are concerned."

Manager Neil Lennon says wage cuts are a possibility at Celtic amid the shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Hearts were the first Scottish Premiership side to ask staff to take a salary reduction of 50%.

Asked if Celtic could follow suit, Lennon said: "Yes. We'll probably have a look at things at the end of April in terms of the club as a whole.

"[Chief executive] Peter [Lawwell] and the board will review it then."

With eight games left to play, Celtic are 13 points clear at the top of the league as they pursue a ninth straight title.

The defending champions are in a strong financial position having posted a profit of £24m for the final six months of last year, which they ended with nearly £33m in the bank.

Stock markets around the world suffered historic losses in the first three months of the year amid a massive sell-off tied to the coronavirus.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average and London's FTSE 100 saw their biggest quarterly drops since 1987, plunging 23% and 25% respectively.

The S&P 500 lost 20% during the quarter, its worst since 2008.

The drops come as authorities order a halt to most activity in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.

Economists have warned the hit to the global economy is likely to be worse than the financial crisis, with forecasters for IHS Markit, for example, predicting growth will shrink 2.8% this year, compared to a 1.7% drop in 2009.

I too live alone and being retired, see myself as a bit of a hermit - but I did not consider how many people I normally chat to when I just take my dog to the local green or go to the supermarket. I thought I'd sail through a period of isolation but it's hitting me harder than I thought, and I find my thoughts wandering to painful things in the past that were never put right - which is pointless. I've decided I have to set myself a challenge, a project to complete, that will give my mind something positive to focus on. We are all social people, perhaps more than we realise.

He succumbed to the illness at a hospital near London while his wife Gabrielle Rogers had to remain in quarantine in Australia unable to say goodbye in person.

Social distancing restrictions have left doubt about whether a full funeral is feasible, Jack's representative Jill McCullough told TMZ.
