Stars including Sir Elton John, Julia Roberts and Lin-Manuel Miranda have paid tribute to US playwright, author and Aids activist Larry Kramer.

Kramer died this week at the age of 84.

He was a pivotal and confrontational figure during the Aids crisis in the 1980s, and depicted the era in his landmark 1985 play The Normal Heart.

Sir Elton John tweeted that it was "the saddest news" and that the world had "lost a giant of a man who stood up for gay rights like a warrior".

Upon release, Perfect Dark received critical acclaim and sold relatively well, eventually joining Nintendo's "Player's Choice" game selection. Although critics widely praised its graphics, artificial intelligence, and number of multiplayer options, they frequently criticised its occasional frame rate drops. The game received the BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Moving Images Award for 2000 and the Golden Satellite Award for Best Interactive Product in 2001. The game is occasionally cited as one of the greatest video games of all time. A remaster, also titled Perfect Dark, featuring enhanced graphics and online multiplayer, was released in 2010.

The Shah dynasty, also known as the Shahs of Gorkha or the Royal House of Gorkha, was the ruling Chaubise Thakuri dynasty from the Indian subcontinent; they claimed Rajput origin from medieval India, and derived from the Gorkha Kingdom from 1559 to 1768 and later the unified Kingdom of Nepal from 1768 to 28 May 2008.

The Shah dynasty traces their historical ancestor to King of Kaski, Kulamandan Shah Khand, whose grandson Dravya Shah captured the throne of Gorkha from Khadka kings with the help of accomplices from six resident clans of Gorkha to become the King of Gorkha.

Actor Tony Scannell, who played DS Ted Roach in ITV police drama The Bill, has died at the age of 74.

Scannell played the character for nine years in the 1980s and 90s.

He was originally only meant to be in two episodes, but impressed the show's producers and went on to become a much-loved character.

He also featured in Flash Gordon, Evil Never Dies and Waking The Dead. His partner Agnes Lillis confirmed the news to the BBC.

Katy Manning, who played Jon Pertwee's Doctor Who companion Jo Grant in the 1970s, paid tribute to Scannell as a "wonderful actor".

He was declared bankrupt in 2002 and continued working on stage, including in a production of the thriller Wait Until Dark at the Garrick Theatre in London.

Agnes Lillis told BBC News: "Tony was the big love of my life. We'd been together a long, long time, and we grew closer and closer.

"Our relationship had many different lives, and he had many different lives in the sense of character transformations. He was very mellow and considerate."

Scannell is survived by Lillis, three adult children, two brothers and two sisters.

A borrower's credit rating should be marked if they take a further mortgage holiday, the Nationwide has said.

Lenders look at somebody's credit rating when deciding whether to agree to a fresh loan or contract and the interest rate they will charge.

Joe Garner, chief executive of the Nationwide Building Society, said an extension to the mortgage break may signal a borrower was "struggling".

He made the comment as the UK's largest mutual announced a plunge in profits.

Its statutory pre-tax profit fell to £466m in the year to April, compared with £833m the previous year.

The building society said it had already faced pressure on its profits before it took a £101m hit as a direct result of coronavirus.

Perhaps Nationwide could put out more of their awful adverts about "message to self in 6 months time" that your credit rating could be affected?

"Mob justice" could increase in England and Wales unless more money is made available to clear the backlog of court cases swollen by coronavirus, the government has been warned.

Richard Atkinson, of the Law Society, said a fall in legal aid payments meant thousands of lawyers risked going bust.

This could further delay trials, with vigilantes stepping in, he claimed.

The government said a "huge amount of work" was going into keeping the justice system going.

The introduction of social distancing meant jury trials were adjourned on 23 March, but a few are now going ahead in specially altered Crown Courts. Normally there are hundreds happening at any one time.
