Former Manchester United forward Alex Dawson, one of the legendary Busby Babes, has died at the age of 80.

Dawson, a trainee under Sir Matt Busby in the mid-1950s, scored on his debut for the Old Trafford club as a 17-year-old in a 2-0 win over Burnley in 1957.

The Aberdeen-born forward also played for Preston, Bury and Brighton, before a loan spell at Brentford.

A Manchester United statement said: "He will be fondly remembered by all of us at the club."

Dawson scored in Manchester United's first game after the Munich air disaster, a 3-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday, and went on to score more than 100 goals for Preston - including one in the 3-2 FA Cup final defeat against West Ham in 1964.

A Preston statement said: "Our thoughts are with Alex's loved ones at this sad time, he will be forever in our hearts."

Edward James Lewis (born May 17, 1974) is a former American soccer player.

During his 14-year professional career, Lewis played extensively in both the United States and England, for San Jose Clash, Fulham, Preston North End, Leeds United, Derby County and Los Angeles Galaxy. He was also a veteran member of the United States national team throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s; he acquired 82 caps, scored 10 goals and represented his country at the 1999 Confederations Cup, 2002 FIFA World Cup, 2003 Confederations Cup, 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup and 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Lewis also scored an "eleventh" international goal on July 17, 1999; however, this goal does not count towards international statistics because it was scored against Derby County, an English Club Team that he would eventually play for.

World Cup winner Andre Schurrle says he doesn't "need the applause any more" after announcing his retirement at 29.

The Germany forward had a year left on his deal with Borussia Dortmund but the two parties agreed to cancel it.

Schurrle, who helped his country win the 2014 World Cup, had a spell at Chelsea and was on loan at Fulham.

"The decision matured in me for a long time," he told German newspaper Der Speigel. "The depths became deeper and the highlights less and less."

Schurrle played for Chelsea from 2013-15 and won a Premier League winners medal in 2015 despite leaving the club for Wolfsburg part-way through the season.

"I want to let you know that I'm stepping away from playing professional football," added on social media.

"On behalf of myself and my family I want to thank everybody who was a part of these phenomenal years.

"The support and love you shared with me was unbelievable and more I could have ever asked for. Now I'm ready and open for all the beautiful possibilities that are coming towards me."

US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has said she is undergoing chemotherapy for a recurrence of cancer, but will not be retiring.

In a statement, the 87-year-old judge said the treatment was having "positive results" and she was "fully able" to continue in her post.

Ms Ginsburg said a scan had revealed lesions on her liver, but the chemotherapy had helped to reduce them.

As the court's most senior liberal justice, her health is closely watched.

She has received hospital treatment a number of times in recent years but has returned swiftly to work on each occasion.

Rep John Lewis, a leader in the civil rights movement and later US congressman, has died at the age of 80.

Lewis was one of the "Big Six" civil rights leaders, which included Martin Luther King Jr, and helped organise the historic 1963 March on Washington.

As a congressman he was a Georgia Democrat, and represented an area which covered most of its capital Atlanta.

In December 2019 Lewis announced that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

"I have been in some kind of fight - for freedom, equality, basic human rights - for nearly my entire life," he said in a statement released at the time. "I have never faced a fight quite like the one I have now."

During the civil rights movement, Lewis was one of the founders of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and then became its chairman from 1963 to 1966.

He co-organised and spoke at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, the rally at which Dr King delivered his historic I Have a Dream speech.

Lewis was the last surviving speaker from the march.

Lewis's death comes on the same day as the death of fellow civil rights leader C T Vivian at the age of 95. Vivian helped organise the Freedom Rides - a protest to integrate buses in the south - and later went on to lead the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC).

Ofcom says it is concerned some customers are "not being treated fairly" over the amount they are being charged to keep old email addresses.

This happens when customers continue to use an old email address from an internet service provider they have since left.

Many people who subsequently switched have paid hundreds of pounds just to keep using their old address as before.

Ofcom's investigation was prompted by a Money Box report earlier this year.

Brentford missed the chance to put promotion to the Premier League in their own hands by falling to defeat at Stoke City, a result which handed Leeds United the Championship title.

Leeds, who were promoted on Friday, now cannot be caught at the top, while the Bees remain third in the table and a point behind West Brom heading into Wednesday's final round of fixtures.

Brentford conclude their season against Barnsley at Griffin Park while the Baggies, one of two teams left in the automatic promotion race alongside Fulham, host Queens Park Rangers.

Stoke are now mathematically safe for another season and move up to 17th, eight points clear of the drop zone before the rest of Saturday's matches are played.
